Chapter One: Little Blue Pills
-Riley-It's been a week full of shit and it seems to keep getting worse and worse.
"Hey man, you good?" Clark asked as we entered the locker room.
We had just lost our first game of the season and of course it had to be against one of the shittiest teams in the district and it was mostly my fault, two saks and a fumble...not to mention my yardage was trash.
"I'm good bro." I lied. I pulled off my helmet and set it down in my locker.
"You sure because you sorta look like shit and your game was off tonight."
I roughly pulled my jersey off over my head and threw it into my locker, "fine you want to talk, my parents are getting a divorce, my girlfriend cheated on me and if I don't bring my grades up coach says I'm off the team!"
He stayed quiet and I sighed in frustration as I took a seat on the long bench that sat in between the lockers. "Everything's going to hell and I don't know what to do man."
He sat next to me, Clark had been my best friend for as long as I could remember but truthfully we met when he moved to town in fourth grade. Our dads work together and our moms became friends by association.
"Look this shit sucks, but you'll get through it."
I nodded, "I mean I guess I don't blame my mom for asking for a divorce, my dad's a piece of shit anyways." I said, "and fuck Natalie, guess I was the only dumbass who couldn't see how big a slut she was."
"I told you not to smash." He put in.
I rolled my eyes.
"Look you just need a new distraction and you'll forget all about that girl." He added, "and hey just get some underclassman to do your work for you and you're safe...I do it all the time."
"I'm failing Ms Ellins class, she hates me because she hates jocks in general...if she even found out I'd consider having someone do my work she'd straight up fail me so I wouldn't be able to graduate."
"Trust me, just talk up some smart girl and she'll do anything to stay in your favor...you're the Q-B dude...every girl would do just about anything to get your attention, even do your homework."
I sighed and shook my head, I can't believe I'm even considering this.
"Hey, you blow this season and you can kiss your scholarship goodbye." He reminded me.
He was right, I needed this team to do good this season if I wanted any recruiters coming to see me.
"So what's up with the raccoon eyes?" He asked, now leaning against his locker.
"Oh...haven't been sleeping these past few days, mostly tossing and turning, it's been hard to turn my brain off...seems like every time I'm ready to go to sleep another things pops into my head." I explained.
He shook his head and reached into his duffle bag. "Here." He said as he opened a little orange medical bottle and handed me five little blue pills.
"Is this viagra?" I asked, with Clark you never really can tell.
He gave me a deadpan expression. "They're sleeping pills...the doctor prescribed them to my mom 'for headaches' but she always so full of downers that she hardly uses them."
Clark's mother (just like my own mom) basically can't stand her husband but he had provided her with a life of means so she felt no reason to leave him, and instead of having to deal with him she takes pills to cope with life...Clark to get back at his parents turns around and sells most of her pills on the street.
