Chapter Two: Three Little Witches
-Cordelia-"Sherrie, are you sure this is what you want to do for your birthday?" I asked a little skeptically.
"Yeah, I mean it's your 18th birthday...shouldn't you be having this huge blowout celebration to commemorate your transition into womanhood." Maxine added.
Sherrie rolled her eyes and simply smiled, "look, you two are my girls...and I didn't want to make a huge fuss over me turning 18, and honestly...this might be one of the last times we get to do this." She said getting a little emotional.
I looked over at Maxine, we knew she was right...we only had the rest of this year before we'd go off to different colleges.
"Well why'd you have to go and get an early acceptance into NYU?" I asked teasingly.
"Me, you're basically a shoe in at whatever college you decide to go to, you've had the best grades since elementary school..." Sherrie sounded
"...you've been in almost every school club and did tennis." Maxine added, "plus you took up Spanish, and you're learning French."
Sherrie only continued. "And let's not even get started on the volunteer work you do by tutoring math."
"Okay I get it." I sounded. I hated when the attention gets put on me. "So you really want this sleep over?"
"Yes." Sherrie smiled childlike. "We just need a few provisions."
"I'll go get my stuff and pick up the snacks." Maxine said before leaving.
"I guess I'll go get my overnight bag too...anything you need other than nail polish and face masks?"
She shook her head, "nah we have Netflix and Hulu if we need movies...I'm going into town anyways to pick up some other things so just come back in about an hour and we can order some pizzas."
I hugged her and then left.
Since I've been saving every last penny I've ever made on college I didn't exactly have a car. But thankfully my mom let me borrow hers to come over, too bad I'd have to ask her for a ride later or I'd end up huffing it on my brother's old ten-speed.
As soon as I got home I pulled out my nail polish box and grabbed my favorites for Maxine and Sherrie, then grabbed my favorite clay face mask and moved on to my closet, I grabbed a pair of old pajamas and a fresh set of clothes before I put everything into a backpack purse.
I knew I still had some time to kill and sat down to finish up my English paper, it wouldn't be due until Friday but why put off tomorrow what you can do today?
Plus with that out of the way I'd be homework free for the rest of the week as my other classes are electives and don't usually assign homework.
As I was typing up my last paragraph I got a text from Maxine.
[Maxine: Honestly...do you think this is weird?]
I knew she was talking about the sleepover.
From the outside in I could see where it may appear harmless, just a few friends having a slumber party for old time's sake. But the truth is, every since Sherrie got accepted into NYU she's sort of been way too nostalgic, like she's trying to preserve our friendship in every way possible.
