Chapter Seventeen: Red Benches

-Riley-

Patty had woken me up the next morning around 4 A.M, Mom was also awake already too.

"Sorry about this kiddo, but if we take off now we can get to Tennessee at a decent hour and catch up on some sleep before making our final leg of the trip tomorrow morning."

I wanted to be upset at being woken up, but i also just wanted this drive to be over with, I wanted to get back to a normal sleep schedule so that I could spend more time with Cordelia, and her promise to wait for me gave me hope that one day I would find her in real life.

I got up and showered before we finally took off. Before getting out too far we stopped and had breakfast, I was glad to see that Patty seemed to be happily oblivious as to what was going on around her, if nothing else there's that.

Once we did hit the open road I had this urge to not only drive but hurry up, like maybe I was tried of traveling but i felt like I needed to hurry up and get to Jersey as fast as I could, and knowing that we still had another stop sometime tonight didn't make this anxious feeling go away any faster.

I drove like a mad man, music blaring and Red Bull and slim Jim's fueling me on further.

That weird pull to hurry up and get to Jersey was more intense than ever.

-Cordelia-

I knew it wouldn't be easy but I knew Scherrie would end up telling her parents what happened."

"Wanna hit up the diner or something?" Maxine asked.

"Nah, i'm just gonna go home and chill for the rest of the day... I wonder if my mom's home?"

"I guess I'll see if I can find Tommy." She smiled. before dropping me off at my house.

I was glad to see that my mom was in fact home, "Hey Ma!" I yelled to get her attention.

She walked out of her bedroom and looked at me like I was crazy, "Why are you yelling?"

"Just wanted to see if you would come with me." I shrugged nonchalantley.

"And where were you planning on going?"

"I need to get a car." I sounded.

"Are you sure this is something you want...I know you've been saving for school."

I nodded, "I think it's something I'm going to need, this way I can get to you or Dad easily if God forbid something were to happen."

"Well." She sighed, "It's definitely a big purchase, and I think you're right...It was be smart to invest in a vehicle, this way I know you'll be able to get around as needed...I can't even begin to imagine you walking around a campus a night."

Soon she had grabbed her purse and I was antsy with the idea of my next purchase.

But once we reached one of the car lots in town i found that a lot of the cash cars I had planned on getting weren't exactly in the best condition. The newer ones were too high in price and the ones with the price range i was looking into were all older models with high mileages.

"this is harder than I anticipated." I sighed as I walked around the fourth car lot of the day.

"I can take you to one of the dealerships and we can see what their used options are like." Mom suggested, However you will need a co-signer...and while I don't mind co-signing I will need you to understand that my signing comes with conditions."
