Chapter Eighteen: Crazy-Cordelia-
The weekend had been so hectic that i was actually glad for the normality that school would weild.
Just like always I met up with Sher and Max, we talked a little trying to avoid the obvious topic at hand, but Maxine couldn't resist for long.
"So How'd it go when you told your parents?"
Sherrie sighed heavily. "Dad was pissed, called the cops and wanted him arrested, of course mom cried a lot, the cops asked me a ton of questions, about Bryan, if he was on drugs, if he hurt me or forced himself on me, despite my denying him hurting me in any way mom still took me in for a physical exam in which she refused to leave me alone...so that was mortifying."
I rubbed her back sympathertically.
"Mom and Dad spoke with the head of the school district and of course with an emergency restraining order from the cops tried to get him kickout out of school, but the superintendent said the staff would do everything to keep us apart...again dad was pissed."
Ollie smiled as he began walking up to us and we all knew we were done with that conversation.
"I'm gonna take off to class already...Cords can you come with?" Sher sounded a little embarrassed.
"No problem." I smiled and followed her.
we got a few steps away from Maxine and Ollie when she confessed that she isn't suppose to be alone while Bryan is potentially in close proximity. A rule her parents must be enforcing, I was glad she was taking this seriously and listening to them.
I walked with her to her class but as we reached the busy hallway One thing stood out.
A crazy looking Bryan with a Bear.
"Just ignore him." I said low enough for only her to hear. My heart was vertical wildly but I knew we'd be safe...I mean we're at school surrounded by other people, he wouldn't act like a lunatic with teachers around would he?
She nodded but as we got closer to the classroom he too ran toward it.
"Hey..." He sounded, a deranged look about him, "I didn't hear from you all weekend babe."
Sherrie didn't say anything so I toughened up and spoke for her. "Brian, you shouldn't be near Sherrie, you can get into a lot of trouble."
"Fuck off...I'm trying to talk to my girl."
"It's over Brian, stay away from me or my dad will have you arrested." She said sadly.
Brian the golden boy of the school had looked like a shadow of himself, he looked like he hadn't slept or bathed in days, his hair was slightly matted and his clothes disheveled.
"Fuck your weak ass dad and your bitch ass friends, everyone's just trying to break us up Sher...but I love you babe and I promise I will have you..."
Then he moved so quick he managed to drop the bear he was holding and in turn grabbed a hold of Sherrie. But it wasn't a loving embrace, he had his hand around her throat and pushed her up against some nearby lockers.
The crowded hallway now had its attention on him. Some girls screamed and a few guys moved to pull him off of her.
He was choking her and screaming "if I can't have you no one will."
The guys finally got him to the ground but he was fighting them and a couple teachers finally got through the crowd and pulled us all out of the hallway and told us we'd have to go to the principal's office.
"You two, go to the counselor's office until you're called." One of the teachers told Sherrie and I.
I nodded and helped Sherrie walk, she was crying like crazy and obviously in shock as she didn't want to talk.
We reached the counselor's office and he immediately shot up asking various questions.
I told him what had happened this weekend and what happened in the hallway and he called her parents and the nurse was called in to assess any injuries.
Her parents walked in with cops demanding that Brian be arrested for assaulting and stalking their daughter. But when the counselor tried to calm down and "asses the situation at hand rationally" Sher's dad was livid.
"I will sue this whole fucking school for negligence."
This was serious.
Sherrie and I followed her parents to the principal's office but never made it as sirens flashed and sounded the arrival of an ambulance and cops.
The next thing we knew Brian was on a medical stretcher and being carted off of school property. The police were talking with the principal and Sherrie's parents went to investigate telling us to stay where we were.
"What the hell is happening?" Maxine sounded, the bell had sounded to signal the beginning of the first class of the day. Kids were beginning crowd around the hectic scene, the schools speakers blared with a warning for all students to get into their assigned classes immediately but Maxine and I remained by Sherrie's side.
My first period teacher walked by us and told us to get to class.
"Sherrie's parents told us to stay here, they're in with Principal Crawford and the cops."
She looked at us and nodded, "you'll be excused for the day, call your parents and tell them to come and pick you up."
Maxine and I pulled out our phones and she walked away so we put our phones down knowing we'd leave without our parents permission.
Last thing I wanted was my mom missing work and worrying about me, hovering over me as if something happened to me and not Sher.
Her parents finally came back and told us they'd be taking her home, "you girls be careful." Her dad said as her mom hugged us, "thank you for being with our baby during all of this...the boy needs proper help and he will get it now."
I wanted to know what happened but I knew they wouldn't say anything.
As they left the guys who had pulled Brian off of Sher walked by us.
"Hey." I sounded getting their attention, "what happened in there?"
The three of them looked scared, pale and worried.
"Dude went crazy, he was ripping up papers and throwing books and shit before he grabbed something, it looked like a long little sword."
"It was a letter opener." Another one said. "He tried to slit his wrists but they're not that sharp...sharp enough to stab his thigh though...kid seriously needs some help."
"Damn...are you joking?" Max asked horror struck.
"Why would anyone joke about that?!" The last guy asked angrily. "Go to class or something!"
Maxine rolled her eyes and we got up to go home.
. . .
I spent all day moping around the house. And was so bored I even cleaned and rearranged my bedroom slightly.
When my dad got home he told me I had mail and that mom was working late.
He ordered a pizza for just the both of us I sat with him while he watch a Basketball game but I was too zoned out to focus on anything.
"Everything alright kiddo?"
I shook my head, "I don't know." I said before I started crying, he asked me what was wrong and I told him everything.
He didn't ask me any questions, and he didn't give me false hopes that everything would be alright, he simply let me cry. Afterward I hugged him and left to take a bath.
I immediate grabbed the lavender oil and added some to my bath the room steamed up and I let my body soak until I finally felt tired.
That night I had no trouble falling to sleep and I was so relieved to find Riley already there, I stood in his arms for longer than I can remember.
