Selen PoV:
She slowly sunk into the seat behind her, still not believing what had just happened; a minute she had been so excited and happy for her now job, the next she was shaking the hand of the man she mostly despised in the whole wide world. What was she going to do?
As usual, her first instinct was to shot for the door, run for safety, for cover; but she couldn't... She had signed a contract and had to abide by its rules; but most importantly she had to provide for her family, she couldn't accept to be unemployed again.
Her shock didn't leave her even as her head was racing with all the thoughts; thoughts of him, of their encounter, on everything that that faithful night had unleashed upon her once perfectly quiet and normal little life. She had lost her father's love and respect, lost Jakes love and friendship; but she had gained the greatest gift of all...
Selen wanted to dwell on those thoughts, on what she had gained and lost; on what that man meant in her life, but reality slapped her hard and she felt like her guts had been hit with a tennis ball-throwing machine. Hands shaking and breath altered but she had to do this; she had to snap out of it; she couldn't just think of herself anymore.
Standing up, gathering every last ounce of strength in her tall, toned body, she made her was to the coffee maker. Lauren had told her how to prepare coffee for the Misses too; oh God she was the misses! Realization hit her hard and she felt sicker than before. Had she been the mistress? Had she been the other one? Thinking of such a possibility made tears spring to her eyes, and her heart tighten. No wonder he had left her like that, he had a wife! That thought infuriated her to her very core. That son of a b***h!
Quickly finishing the coffee, she set towards the door and firmly knocked on it. She was angry, furious, enraged by her thoughts and that gave her enough strength to face what expected her just on the other end of that door.
"Come in,"- she heard the woman say. Gently she opened the door and without scanning the room, she made her way to the big desk and set the coffee down. Lifting her gaze up for a slight second, she saw his eyes waiting for her, silently speaking to her and she could make out everything they said; and that confused her. She could see hurt, pain, sadness and regret in them; what?
"Thanks...,"- the woman said and she was forced to turn her gaze to her.
"Selen , Selen Heartfelt,"- she simply noted. The woman looked stunning, beautiful blonde locks of hair, tall slim built, and a powerful attitude, something Selen herself was striving to maintain.
"Well than Selen, thanks for the coffee. You may leave now,"- she simply nodded her off and Selen could notice how the blond-ie pretended she didn't exist anymore. Without speaking or turning back, she quickly withdrew herself from the office.
15 minutes had passed before the woman came out of the room, not even uttering a small goodbye Selen's way; she just left. Better, she thought to herself, as she could not afford to look at that woman and feel sorry right now. She knew it was just a matter of time before Alex called for her; and she was right; she knew she was right when her phone buzzed. Slowly she picked it up, preparing herself, all the anger she had held inside for years, coming back in a flashing flame, able to burn everything on its way.
"Yes,"- she softly spoke.
"Come in please,"- he ordered though it felt more like a plea to her. Slowly she stood up, deep breath and headed for the door. She knocked, sturdy and firmly, and without waiting for a reply, opened it. Alex wasn't at his desk, as she had thought, he was looking outside of the wall wide windows just behind his desk; his back half shown to her.
