Previously in chapter 20:

I felt Olivia grabbing onto my wrist, making me look down at her.

"Calm down." She whispered. "It's a special day to her."

I sighed deeply.

Why am I still under her spell?

"I'm sorry I raised my voice. But I'm keeping my name." I told my mom before turning around and leaving the room. Olivia quickly followed me and we went to find our seats.

"I'm sorry you had to see that." I told her once we sat down on the first row.

"You never have to apologise to me." She assured me, giving me a smile.

For a second she placed her hand on my knee but removed it shortly after.

"Is it weird for you? You know, being here."

"A bit." She admitted. "But like you said, I owed you one."

---------------

The ceremony went by painfully slow and I even considered taking out my phone to make the time pass. But I contained myself, kept the fake smile on my lips and tried to look like I was enjoying myself. I might come off as the ungrateful son, but in my defence I do have a bad relationship with my mom (and my dad for that matter). Brian is a great guy and Jayden is... tolerable. It's just weird seeing her marrying someone else, even though she and dad haven't spoken in over ten years.

I carried Jayden on my shoulders as we walked to the wedding reception that was being held in a building close to the church. Olivia was hitting it off with my cousin Ashleigh, which was a bit annoying because now I didn't have someone to talk to.

But to my luck Ashleigh walked off to join her family at their table when we stepped into the big room. I crouched down and Olivia helped Jayden climb down from my shoulders.

I sighed when I made eye contact with her.

"Now we just have to sit through this awful dinner and then we can leave. You okay with that or should I make an excuse so we can get out of here?"

Olivia giggled and linked arms with me.

"I'm actually enjoying this. I think you're just trying to find something to blame on so you can leave early." She said and started to walk towards the table we were sitting at.

"I want to leave early. All these happy people make me sick."

"It's for one day, Niall."

"No, it's not. When this is over, I'll still be surrounded by annoyingly happy couples."

"Then change surroundings, if it makes you so upset."

I decided not to answer, since we were right by the table. Mom briefly smiled up at us, before continuing talking to some lady. I didn't recognised her, so maybe she was here as Brian's guest.

I sat down next to Greg, leaving the spot next to Jayden to Olivia, since he's the only one she really knows at this table.

Mom stood up from her seat and grabbed the microphone the lady gave her. It was already time for the first speech, oh god.
