True to his word, we all found Marius leaning on the wall outside of the Musain, swinging his hands with the familiar girl. They looked sickeningly sweet. So happy. I could tell Éponine was upset but she kept it together as we both walked over to her together. The others stood back, wanting to observe what was going to happen.
"Cosette" I said nervously and she flung her perfect blonde locks and looked away from a smiling Marius to meet our faces.
She was the definition of the sun. Her face shone brightly and her smile affected the many people it came across. It didn't falter as she tried to work out who we were.
"Um hello" she said slowly. She seemed a bit nervous herself, meeting all of us for the first time.
"Cosette, its us... Éponine and Felicité" my sister said quietly. Once again, she remained smiling as she cocked her head to one side.
"Of course it is!" She whispered, tears rushing to her sapphire blue eyes and she pulled us both close.
I gasped. I was touching the girl I hadn't seen for over 10 years. She used to be my best friend.
"I can't believe it's you" Éponine said, squeezing her hand.
"Neither! Marius you could have told me!" She squealed playfully. The way Marius' eyes lit up when she addressed him was beautiful. They were lovestruck. I didn't believe in love at first sight before I saw the looks on their faces.
"Can you introduce me to everyone. I feel a little awkward" she muttered in our ears. Éponine and I shared a look. She wanted an introduction, she was going to get one.
"Now this is Apollo Enjolras, named suitably after the Greek God. Just call him Enjolras or he will rip your head off" I started.
"With his teeth" Éponine added helpfully.
"Yes, with his teeth" I nodded, going along with whatever rubbish she was saying. Cosette looked genuinely afraid of the intimidating man in red.
"Now Combeferre is his right hand man. Really great guy. Plus he owns pink boxers. That's all you need to know" Éponine said.
"How did you...?" Ferre shouted furiously, turning redder by the second. Courf smirked a little.
"Moving on, Courfeyrac here is like a little puppy. Excitable. Also not a very good friend as he seems to never tell me IMPORTANT THINGS" I said, Courf in uncontrollable laughter. Everyone else just looked uncomfortably confused.
I coughed before saying "we have Joly, aka the guy who says you're dying and have an hour to live but in reality you've just got a stuffy nose"
"Yeah I second that" Éponine said.
"Oh we also have Bosseut who is like the unluckiest person ever. I'm still wondering to this day how he is still with us" Éponine said, making everyone laugh. It was true, he was unlucky.
"Bahorel here pretends he is really tough but he is actually a little angel who needs protecting at all costs" I said as seriously as I could.
"Jehan. Our poet. Our next Shakespeare. Plus he has really great hair" I said, winking at him. I wasn't lying, he had beautiful red strands that reflected the glow of the sun in summer and the glistening of the snow in winter. He seemed to really appreciate the little compliment.
"Okay who else... ah yes Feuilly. He's actually so clever. Taught himself to read and write and everything. He also makes pretty cool fans if you're interested" Éponine offered and Cosette giggled.
"You know Marius of course and finally we have Grantaire. A drunk man who has no feelings towards the cause he is dedicating himself to. Basically he is a raging alcoholic" I smirked to him.
"Hey you stole my line!" He grinned, glancing at Enjolras who huffed in reply.
"Let's go" he grumbled and Éponine and I skipped ahead, pretty proud of our little speech.
"Wait where are we going!?" I stopped and yelled to the others who were walking in one big group behind.
"Maybe if you walked with us, you'd know" Enjolras challenged and I grinned at him, jumping onto his back.
"I love you, even when you are moody " I muttered into his ear.
"Ah, the true words of love. Jehan get a load of this!" He laughed. "I love you too"
We walked on ahead for about another mile. The sun was still as strong as it was this morning, if not hotter. I noticed that we got further and further away from the busy city until we could no longer hear the buzz of talking or yells of market sellers. It was blissfully quiet.
More and more trees began to pop up out of nowhere, like they were holograms of my imagination. They weren't like the ones you would find in the centre of Paris though. They were the huge kinds, that looked like they were endless as the climbed higher into the sky. Amidst all the talking I could hear a gentle water flow deeper into the woods.
We got closer and I realised it was a brook. The water was quite deep but it was clean and sparkling, practically inviting us to dive in. It certainly didn't look cold either, not with the sun growing hotter by the minute.
Sunlight crept through the branches and leaves, making strange shadows on the water. It was a beautiful sight. Just for us.
"Wow" I breathed, taking in all the beauty that surrounded us.
"Joly took me here on our first date, before we met Bosseut" Chetta said quietly, appearing next to me. She handed me a small item of clothing and I shook it out to reveal a simple black swimming two piece. "E told me to bring it. Something about a surprise."
"Thank you Chetta" I smiled at the girl.
"It's no problem... Cosette, Éponine and I will come with you to change. Lucky I brought enough for all of us" she said, her laughter echoing throughout the forest.
When we returned, the boys were sitting down, already changed on the emerald grass. It was my first time I had seen them... properly. Every single one of them was toned, even Grantaire. Without realizing, I self consciously wrapped my arms around my exposed stomach and thighs and the top of my chest. I always felt too skinny and now, standing with 3 beautiful women and with loads of good looking men, I felt even worse.
"E, she has better abs than you!" Bosseut gasped and the others cheered. I looked down at the lines that had started to form on my stomach. It was from all of the carrying I was used to doing at the inn. I didn't like them. I wanted to be flawless, with smooth, curvy bodies like the others.
I saw Enjolras glance down like me, not wanting his friends to see him blush. I laughed the comment off. They didn't know. After all, it was meant as a compliment.
But i couldn't keep my mouth shut.
"Actually, beauty shouldn't be measured in the way you look or how your body is. The true measure of beauty should be what kind of person you-"
I was cut off as I met with the cool water.
Grantaire had thrown me in.
I looked angry as I instantly floated to the top and emerged my head out of the water, looking at the faces of my hysterical friends.
"Cannon!" he yelled and I was interrupted again by a wave that had pushed me under again.
It looked like Grantaire had joined me.
