I opened my eyes and was met with the face of Enjolras. The world around us was white and I smiled happily at him. It was silently blissful. I felt as I did before, and I thanked god for that. I was just pleased that I was with Enjolras, like I had hoped. We had done what we needed to do.
We were in heaven.
A cough interrupted my train of thought.
I turned to the side and widened my eyes in shock, convinced I was gonna faint.
Grantaire stood, gun in his hand that had dropped the side of his body. And we weren't surrounded by national guardsmen. They were on the floor. Dead.
Grantaire had shot the last of the army.
"We aren't dead?!" Enjolras said, it sounding more like a question than a statement.
"Grantaire!" I whispered, struggling to even form words. We weren't dead, we were still alive thanks to Grantaires pit stop to get ale as the fight began.
I ran over and jumped into his arms, knocking us both down onto the floor with a thunk. We erupted into a fountain of laughter as I kissed his forehead, whispering thank you's. The thank yous weren't enough though, nothing was enough to repay him.
"What about the others R?" Enjolras asked, coming over to bear-hug his friend.
"I saw Joly, Marius and Feuilly being dragged away by that old man. I checked Bosseut and Bahorels pulse before I came here. B's luck might not have completely gone, as they are both still beating" he laughed.
"And Jehan?" I urged, remembering seeing him with those two.
"The clever little thing thought it would be a good idea to pretend to fall, so that when the coast is clear, he could help as many people as possible. He followed the old man with their bodies." He said and I beamed, proud of his quick thinking. But something was still niggling in the back of my mind.
"And Courfeyrac and Combeferre?" Enjolras gulped, saying the thing that both of us were thinking. We had saw them die, there was no way that they had survived.
"Bonjour!!!" Courfeyrac yelled, throwing open the door with his arm, with Combeferre rolling his eyes behind them. This was it, we had all survived. This wasn't a miracle, this was something else, bigger than a miracle.
I screamed, jumping up and down and running towards them both.
"Courfeyrac, that was gonna be a surprise" Combeferre scolded, just before Enjolras took hold of him and squeezed the life out him.
"They should know, shooting someone in the foot will only take them out for a minute or two... well that is depending on the severity of the injury and how long it would take for help to arrive-" Ferre added before Courfeyrac turned and kissed him on his lips, shutting him up.
"Grantaire come here!" I yelled at the boy with a smirk on his face, watching us. I could tell he was chuffed with himself.
I took his hand and dragged him over and his thumb grazed over my 4th finger. He stopped and frowned in surprise, moving his finger to reveal the diamond that sat atop of my finger. He gasped and bit his lip, smirking at me, Courfeyrac and Combeferre echoing his movement until they were all smiling at us.
"Well we gotta make the best out of a bad situation!" Enjolras defended, making everyone laugh and join us in a group hug.
"Trust Enjolras, always the romantic" Combeferre winked and I snorted, Enjolras elbowing me.
"Well you two aren't the only ones with relationship goals" I grinned back.
"Oh Lissy, I need to tell you something!" Courf remembered and I nodded.
"That old man that saved Joly and Marius. His name was Jean ValJean. He was he man that took Cosette" he said, giving me a small smile. I sighed in relief. Cosette couldn't have asked for a better papa. She deserved him.
"I'd like to go and see them all" I declared, looking to Enjolras who nodded.
"Lead the way!" He said to Grantaire.
