Amy

After a few years or smth, I gained some of my memories back. I always started to see some girls in my head but I couldn't remember who they are... Well, as I said I started teaching kids. We lived in a little poor village near Cape Town if I didn't mention it yet. But one thing I couldn't help for: The sicknesses. I saw both, Hadiya and Bashin dying in a time of sickness. Some families left the town to find new jobs. I noticed it was time for me to do something too. I was educated. I could make a move. I decided to go to Cape Town with Bakari. I promised to take care of him. Well, it seems to have no future at first, because where should we live? We had no home.

When we arrived in Cape Town, I started to look for jobs. Soon, I had one. It was in a little shop in the center. Bakari was allowed to stay with me during work, so it was a good thing. The first time, we always looked for little night stays, but we could not always get one. In the afternoon, he always played soccer in the backyard of the shop, and when it got dark outside we secretly rushed up to the real football pitch of the school that was near too. To see his laugh made me smile. Unfortunately, I couldn't play with him because of my leg, but he didn't care.

In the morning, he always helped me in the shop and I taught him how to read and calculate. There was an old man called Matteo who always came to the shop and he as kind of mysterious at first, but then he was our luck. He came every day and got on really well with Bakari. Sometimes they started singing together had lots of fun. One day he came in while I practiced reading with him. Matteo sat down in the corner and listened. When we finished, he came up to Bakari.

"Bakari, wouldn't you like to go to a real school?" he said and added "Not to say you don't have a good teacher, but you could learn many more things and you could make alot of new friends."

Bakari nodded full of excitement and turned around to me. So did Matteo.

"But only if Amy says yes." he said.

"Are you serious? How?" I said in kind of disbelief but happiness. He walked up to me.

"I see alot of potential and faith in him. I'm in the managing committee of the public private school. We choose 3 kids each year. I think Bakari is the right kid." he told me and I was so happy about it. I hugged him. Yes, Bakari wasn't my own son, but I promised his parents to take care of him. They always talked about him being in a real school, having a bright future. And I wanted a real home for him.

Already a few days later, we went to that school and everything went fine. There was also a miracle happening for me: I got a job in the school. Soon, we also got a home stay sponsored by the school committee.

Working in a school is way different than I always thought and school is Africa are way different.

Matteo and Bakari became really close, he didn't open up to anyone since he saw his parents dying, but he Matteo was the first one he opened up to. They spent alot of time together.

I felt really good. I could help children in a poor village, saved a little boy from the death and gave him a new perspective for life. Maybe that was my destiny? Maybe that's why I came to Africa? God always has a reason to let something happen. God is good.
