"A Soul in The Night"

The moon is bright

It shines down on them all

Chases away shadows

Melts down the cold

A faint glow in the dark night

A companion for glittering city lights

Thousands of jewels are twinkling up there

Each one glimmering, each one so fair

The misty air tickles their face

They're wrapped up in the cool breeze's embrace

The city is asleep, at the same time awake

A steady hum of cars circling the state

The quiet is calming

Everything is at peace

A beautiful night indeed

So perfect each piece

Overlooking the city, a bridge standing proud and tall

Steel and concrete, metal and all

Connecting the ends of two glorious places

The pride of each one, built despite differences

The river's asleep, as are most of the men

Not a sound to be heard, as if the water's dead

Shining splendidly under the light of the moon

The waves are still and will be 'till noon

The night so calm and cool and serene

Tranquility hugs everyone as they go off and dream

But a lonely soul stands rigid on the bridge

Peace can't penetrate his mind in a ditch

He's hurt, alone, aching inside

Monsters and demons destroying his will to fight

They whisper, they shout, spark a war in his mind

They claw at his heart, making him numb, making him blind

O so many nights have been wasted and spent

Moping and crying as time came and went

Each day his hope fades out more

His soul dies, his heart cries, his sanity broken and sore

He's mastered faking a smile

He's fooled everyone he loves

But it hurts even more now

Harder to hide his breaking heart

His grip is tight, his eyes are wet

Both his mind and his soul are now set

They shout louder and louder

They push him off the edge

It drives him mad enough to jump off the ledge

It all weighs down on him

His heart heavy with grief

The burden is too much

To pull him back on his feet

The night is calling, pulling him near

He just wants it to end, to make his head clear

Takes a deep breath, one more, now two

And then he lets go; like it's the right thing to do

He falls and already he feels so free

Splash! Now he's thankful that he couldn't breathe

He doesn't struggle, he welcomes the cold

The shadows celebrate as they grab his torn soul

But somewhere in his mind a tiny voice spoke

"DON'T!" It was faint, but it was so full of hope

This one word flooded in him; it gave him faith

Maybe he could still somehow fix his state

He tried to fight...

But then it was too late

And so on that beautiful, perfect night

No one would ever know

That a lonely man took his life

Because he too quickly lost his hope
