"Smile"

She smiles and waves

As she comes your way

Cheerfulness radiating off

Like sunshine rays

She laughs with her friends

Her eyes twinkle and glisten

With her world O so bright

Happiness surely must not end

You even envied her once

Wished you had the life she was living

Stories escape from her lips

Of her glorious childhood days

She doesn't speak of the present

You ignore it anyway

She walks with you back home

Puts on another big smile

At your front door she says

"Bye, I'll see you in a while"

She walks straight to her home

Hesitates, then opens the door

Her mom isn't there

Well, she never really did care

Her mother's husband spots her

He's drunk, she can tell

A fist meets her face

And at impact her mask fell

"You aren't my daughter!

You're just a disgrace!"

She knows that already

Has been told every single day

She runs up to her room

Hopes there wouldn't be a bruise

Wouldn't want to show up

With a mark of abuse

Exhausted, she lies down

Thinks everything will be fine

Tomorrow she'll put back her mask

And fool the world with her smile
