“Tell me again.”, Eddie says, distractedly picking at his Chinese food with his fork. He watches Kevin from across the table who hasn't even stopped to breathe since he got his plate of food.
Between a bite, Kevin replies with, “The situation is not going to change the more times I tell you.”
“I just... I don't wanna believe it.”, Eddie drops his fork, not bothering to continue kidding himself into thinking he's gonna eat. He's been tossing and turning the same thought in his head since Kevin told him about Aleks yesterday. It's unfathomable in his head.
“Believe it, Eddie. It's not changing any time soon.”, Kevin deadpans.
“How could he... that's not who he is. I know him. He's my best friend. He wouldn't-”
Kevin lifts his eyes from his plate, staring directly towards Eddie with an incredibly unimpressed look. “Look, Eddie. I'm not gonna keep going in circles with you. We gone over this. Aleks is Seamus' now. He's hardly within your grasp anymore. He's a lost cause. I suggest you give up on him.”, Kevin shovels one more forkful into is mouth before reaching into the pocket of his jeans before dropping a twenty onto the table. “Thanks for lunch.”, he says in departure, leaving Eddie alone at the restaurant table.
The lunch date hadn't gone exactly as Eddie had hoped. He had been hoping that Kevin would come back to him and tell him that it was all a joke and Aleks was just crashing at some hotel somewhere. Unfortunately, all he got was Kevin continuing to confirm his story from yesterday.
Aleks. Aleks Vitaly, the hired assassin of some mob gangster named Seamus. Eddie lowers his head to the table, screwing his eyes shut. He still refuses to believe it. That's not his Aleks. That's not his Aleks who bought him a chocolate cake when he hit a million subscribers on Youtube. That's not his Aleks who cried to him on the phone when he fell off the waggon and killed Maddie. That's not his Aleks who is his closest friend in the world.
“Date leave you already?”
Eddie opens his eyes and lifts his head from the table, resting his gaze on the curly haired blond sitting across from him. His blues eyes are trained on Eddie and there's a relaxed smile spread across his lips as he leans back casually in his chair.
“Hello.”, Eddie greets in a rather confused tone.
“Hi. You look like you just got dumped.”, the guy crosses his arms rather loosely across his chest.
“Not exactly.”, Eddie replies glumly.
“What? So that guy that just walked out wasn't your boyfriend at anytime? Coulda fooled me.”
“I barely know him. He just had some things to tell me... and he wanted Chinese.”
The blond shrugs. 'His lose. What's your name anyway?”
“Eddie. What's your name?”
The blond shrugs again. “That's hardly important.”
“Ohhhh, no. I already went through this with another guy. Name or we don't talk.”, Eddie replies with narrowed eyes.
“Oh, I'm just here for your plate of food. I'm hardly the kind of guy you want to get involved with.”, the blond reaches for Eddie's plate and picks up Kevin's fork to dig into the plate of noodles. Eddie doesn't even protest since his curiosity was more with the guy sitting with him than with the plate of food.
“Do you always randomly show up at people's tables and steal their food?”
“No. You just looked like you needed someone to take to and I'm hungry.”
