Chapter Six: Unknown to Love but Broken to Truths
[Isaac Colten Sutts]
"So you talked to him about how you want to be with him?" I glared at Max.
"No, I did not talk about that! We talked about others thinking we were a couple!" He shrugged and looked down at his phone.
"How do you think my relationship with Alexie started?" I sighed and rubbed my temples. This guy was ridiculous.
"Do you remember when I told you I loved you?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"I really do not love you. Also, I told him about that." He cocked his head to the side.
"Why would you do that?"
"Because when you think you're in love with someone you aren't always right. He needed to know that before all of this got into his head. Sure he's a great guy and I wouldn't mind, but I can't just do that. I don't want to be a rebound from his DEAD WIFE. I'm not risking getting hurt like that." He gave me a tired look before speaking.
"He likes you. That's good for now. You almost made me your rebound so just give him more time. Okay? Plus, even if we did get to him I think he'd figure it out." I sighed and slumped into my seat.
"You're right but still... I don't want something like that to happen. I'd rather have him reject me and know what he's doing rather than have him be with me and he's confused about everything. I don't want to get into a relationship where he's going to deny it half way through." He nodded and looked up to my office ceiling.
"I get it. Just wait it out. If he does admit he likes you just see where it goes in the first week. You remember how to tell if their rebounding or it they're truly feeling it, right?" I nodded and stood.
"I should probably go. Andrew's new babysitter can only watch him till noon most days..." Max rolled his eyes and stood also.
"Maybe you only like the baby. You've grown quite attached to that one." I glared at him before giving him a hug and gesturing him out.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm going." He gave me a half smile before walking out. I grabbed my coat and headed out to go pick Andrew up.
[Cilyn Carson]
"Class dismissed. Brayson stays back for a minute please." The class started to pile out and Brayson slowly walked over to me. I looked him over and noticed his eyes were red.
"Smoking in between bells, again? You better be glad I like you as a student and don't want you expelled." He grinned and sat on my desk.
"I've been stressed a lot. Can you blame me? Anyway, what did you need Teach?" I sighed and set my head down on my desk next to his outer thigh.
"I guess I'm feeling stressed too. What you said to me got me thinking and I talked to Colt about it on Friday. He said I should wait until I'm sure about how I feel. What do you think?" He gave me a surprised look.
"Well, maybe you should wait? I'm not the expert there. If it's really bothering you, why don't you try to see if anyone attracts you or something? I'm sorry I'm not all that good at this." I shook my head and looked up at him.
"I'm not all that attracted to people in general. I've always gone after the personality. That wouldn't have worked for me anyway. You should go to class. If you don't I expect you to lay off the weed for the rest of the day. You're not thinking too straight." He laughed.
"You're not thinking too straight either, teach! After all, all you got on your mind is a man." He walked over to the door and waved to me.
"I'll see you tomorrow. Don't make anyone chase you down the halls, please." He grinned and winked before shutting the door.
I stood up and got ready for my next class. My thoughts drifted to Colt making me stop and just stare at the board.
"Mr. Carson?" I shook my head and looked up to who it was.
"Zales? Is there something wrong?" He pulled his hoodie off and sat down at one of the desks. He was quiet for a few moments before he looked up to me.
"I told him my name. It felt good. He looked sick and ran out of the cafeteria, but I still told him." I stared at him for a few moments before walking over to him.
"He didn't say anything to you? Didn't ask about why you didn't tell him?" He shook his head and looked at me.
"He just went pale then ran out of the cafeteria. He didn't say anything. My friends looked at me for a while. I think they were shocked too. I did completely change after that. No one recognized me. When the time came, even my best friend was shocked. I don't know what to do about anything anymore. I forgive him. Now how do I tell him I love him?" I looked at him for a few moments.
"Are you sure you love him?" He looked me in the eyes.
"I've known since the day he disappeared that I loved him. I'm just now letting it show. I've felt broken since he left. Since he showed back up I've been so happy. I don't know what to do. He's going to reject me. I know he is." I shook my head.
"He loves you too. Even the blind can see that. But can you tell me what made him run out?" He looked down at the floor.
"Maybe he just then realized how much he hurt me back then? Or maybe he's just now realizing that I am me? I'm not sure." I smiled to him.
"Why don't you go find him? The truth might make someone broken but they can always fix it somehow. It just takes time." He nodded and stood in front of me.
"Thank you. I hope you and Colt will be together for a long time." I stared at him as he left the room.
"Maybe we can love each other. Maybe we will be together." I mumbled before going back to writing on the white board.
