Chapter Fifteen: Bit of Chaos Leads to Confessions
[Cilyn Carson]
There were a few people that laid on the floor in blood, no doubt their own. Some had a gun wound to the head or to the chest, while others had a slit carved carefully into their throats. I wanted to help them, but even I could tell it was too late, even in a hospital.
Slowly I walked towards the halls, stepping over someone. The halls seemed eerily quiet and had me feeling dizzy. Nothing could be heard. No voices, no scratching, nothing. The only sign of sound was my heart beat and the tap of my shoes. If anyone was in the rooms they didn't show it. All the doors were shut and looked heavy, it gave me a weary feeling.
Exiting the halls, I found the stairway entrance. I went over to them, scared to use the elevator. I crept my way up. Temptation to take my shoes off so it was very quiet was looming over me. Suddenly a gun shot was heard from above me and I chocked back my gasp of surprise. Pop! Pop! Pop! Shots kept piercing my ears and I almost fell down the flight of stairs.
Gathering my courage back up I began to make my way up. I was almost to the door when another series of shots rang out when I heard an agonizing screech while a familiar voice yelled at it.
"Would you shut up! You could be dead right now! At least say thank you for letting you live!" Another shot and the screech was gone, but replaced by the silence. I was at the floor that the sounds were coming from. The man yelled out once more.
"Give me the child! You can't hide forever! I know you're here!" I opened the door to see more people dead than alive. The bloodbath was splattered over the walls and on people. The dead were sprawled across the floor and slumped against the walls. The chemicals that were spilled mixed with the blood making it impossible to breath.
"You! Where is he? Where is my grandson you've corrupted!" He pointed at me and had a fierce glare upon his face. I stared into my dead wife's father's eyes as he lifted the gun to me.
"You want my son? You want to take him away? Well I can't let you. I'd rather die than place my child in your hands. I will never take it upon myself to decide my child's death just as soon as his life began!" I suddenly saw someone behind Mr. Hemming, so I continued to speak.
"Are you going to shoot me? Are you sure it's the right thing to do? Well what do I know! It seems you have nothing to lose, after all you've killed nearly every person on this floor, as well as the first floor. Who knows who else you've murdered in the last hour? You're a disgrace to human kind!" Bang! He fell to the floor. Isaac stood with a fire extinguisher in his hands. He dropped it onto his head before falling to his knees.
"I-I'm sor-rry! I did-dn't wa-wa-want to kill h-im, bu-but he was— Auhhh!" His beautiful eyes were squeezed shut and I walked over to him. I rested my hand onto his cheek and he opened his eyes. My blue eyes met his brown ones and I felt relieved. I hugged him closely and began to sob also.
"Never do that again! Never scare me like that again! Do you have any idea how worried I was?" He tightened his hold on me as Dr. Noels pocked his head out of his room.
"Is it safe?" I had a laugh as I waved him over, relieved when I saw him carrying Andrew. He handed me our son and hugged Isaac.
"Haven't had a scare like that in some 20 years. Glad we made it out of there. How about we get out of here and go meet with the big guys out side? They've been standing out there doing nothing!" We all agreed and headed down to the elevator. I was happy that the quiet was stopped by the small talk Dr. Noels came up with.
"Max, no one wants to hear about the time you thought you knocked some girl up." Isaac seemed to grumble and Andrew was squealing at him. He went to grab at his hair but Isaac gave him a stern look.
"No. We talked about that. That hurts people and we don't hurt people." Andrew only went after his dark hair again making Isaac sigh.
When we made it down to the level floor the police were just flooding in. People were sitting outside and were looking at us with interest. An officer walked over to us and I realized who it was.
"I expect you're fine. No signs of damage on you. How's everything going besides this whole mess?" I rolled my eyes to my friend.
"Same ole same ole. Just a bit busier. Taylor's gone now. I've been getting some help from my boyfriend, Isaac. Other than that nothing's changed. How about you? I heard your last work was a big one. Taking a break?" He shrugged and looked around.
"Looks like an easy case but we need to investigate further still." I shook my head, knowing there was no need.
"It was Taylor's father. He wanted Andrew. Of course that didn't happen. Isaac kinda hit him with a fire extinguisher. He might still be alive but I'll leave the rest to you. We good to go?" I could see his eyes tire as he nodded and waved us off.
"Just try to stay out of trouble. And next time I see Brayson Smoking near the school make sure he at least puts his hood up. I can't always turn a blind eye." I smiled to him.
"But you do anyways. I'll see you around." I pulled Isaac and my son out of the hospital and walked over to my car only to remember.
"Brayson and Chace are in my car..." But Isaac looked to dazed to respond and just let me drag him to it. The boys were sitting in the back talking quietly and looking worried. I made them stop as I opened the passenger door and set Isaac down. I then moved to the back and started to buckle Andrew in.
"No one's hurt?" I shook my head.
"No one I know at least. Although Mr. Hemming might be dead. I'm not too sure though." I finished strapping him in before shutting the door and going over to my own seat.
"Can we go home now? I don't think we can handle any more today." I nodded and headed to my house. But they stopped me and had me take them to Isaac's house. We were quiet for the main part of the ride but after we dropped the boys off Isaac suddenly spoke.
"You called me your boyfriend to that guy. Why'd you say that?" I stopped and focused on the road trying to come up with a response. I was coming up empty and pulled the car over.
"I guess it's because I love you. I can't really imagine my life without you. So I guess what I'm saying is..." I looked down at my lap before looking up into Isaac's eyes. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it, "Will you be my boyfriend?" His eyes went wide and he stared at me for several moments.
"You're sure about this? You really want to be with me? It's not some sick joke?" I shook my head to his questions.
"Of course I'm not kidding. I love you and I want to be with you." I let go of his hand and placed my hand to his face.
"Okay, I get it! Can we finish this up at home? I love you too but I'd love to be in our house when we finish this up..." I sighed and pulled away from him.
"Fine but you owe me." I heard him give a soft laugh as I pulled out and started our way home, with one thought:
I really, really love this man.
