Chapter Twenty-One: Everyone Deserves Love

[Cilyn Carson]

"Sir?" I looked up to see Cole Lambert. He toward over me but he still looked somewhat of a child. His blond hair was in a slight wisp and his blue eyes looked soft and warm.

"Cole. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to you much these last few months. How are you?" He took a seat at a desk and held his head down. When he lifted it back up he stared at me.

"I've been better. I heard that you were... I mean. I heard about your relationship." I raised an eyebrow and he sighed even deeper than before.

"Is there a problem with my relationship?" He shook his head and looked at the ground. He looked tired and I wondered why he came to me of all people.

"I used to think you had the perfect life. Then your wife died and you got a, uh, boyfriend. I wasn't sure how to react." He looked me in the eyes before someone walked into the classroom.

"Why did you want—Oh um. Sorry I wasn't informed you'd be here sir." I cocked my head to the side as Ryker left the room.

"Is my room the hang out room? I feel like more and more people meet here. Anyway continue." Cole now looked pale and glanced at the door where Ryker was outside.

"Did you ever believe or strive to be perfect?" I looked him over and thought about what he was asking.

"My parents wanted me to be perfect. I couldn't do that so I just did everything the best I could. When I was 18 I pulled away from that life. I never wished to be perfect. I could be happy being imperfect as long as I was loved and I loved someone." Cole looked at me and sighed.

"What if you were the perfect image and everyone expected you to be perfect? What if they counted on you to be the best at everything?" He glanced over at the door and I looked over to. Ryker looked a bit farther from the door and on his phone.

"Then I'd make a mistake and tell them you can't expect something that's impossible. Even the adults make mistakes. Being imperfect is a part of being human. We're not dolls. We can't sit perfectly still and abide to the rules of everyone." Cole seemed to look calmer and got a look of longing.

"What if you lost your only chance to be happy?" I raised an eyebrow.

"My boyfriend thought he missed his chance when his best friend died. He loved him and never got the chance to tell him. Then, eleven years later, he met me. You can't give up just because you think it's over. You go after what could be, not what you think could've been. Everyone deserves happiness." I stood and walked over to the door.

"You two should talk. Otherwise you might truly miss your chance." I walked out and allowed Ryker in. He looked at me before smiling and going in. I walked down the hall ways and roamed until it was time for my next class.

"Everyone deserves happiness, huh? I think I'm turning into a sap." I chuckled and shook my head. Students passed me and some of them were hanging off of other students while others seemed happy just talking to their friends.

"Everyone deserves two things this world has to give." I glanced over to see Skylar. He was looking at all of the students like me.

"Two things?" He nodded and gestured to the students.

"Everyone deserves happiness and love. One day both of those things are taken and that's the day we die. We're never fully stripped of the two emotions. Even in death someone still loves of. In death we are still loved to the fullest which makes our spiritual selves happy. Death only makes us sad for a certain time in our lives. One day we embrace it. He's only doing his job. Death empties out the people who lived their lives and are ready. Sometimes they don't die when they are ready, because that journey has proven to be too far." I looked over to my student and smiled at him.

"You're right. Everyone deserves love. Happiness isn't the only thing we need to survive." He smiled and faced me. He took my hand and pulled me to my classroom. I glanced inside to see Ryker and Cole. They had their arms wrapped around each other and they were laughing.

"Even the people who think it's too late. The manage to make it work and it's all because of the encouraging words of their friends. Of their teachers. Their parents. They know they can make it. And so we all let them see how they should feel once more. That's the true beauty of life." He let go of my hand and walked into the classroom. I stared at him as he took a seat and the two pulled away. Skylar only smiled to them and looked out the window. Cole went over to him and looked stressed. I walked in and sighed.

"Sky. You know better than to tease. Even they deserve it." He shrugged an laughed.

"True but their faces are what makes my day. Especially when I catch them and they're trying to hide it." He shrugged and laid his head down.

"Don't worry about him. He won't say anything. You two should head to class though." They looked embarrassed and shuffled out of the room.

"You're impossible. You know that, right?" He chuckled and nodded.

"I've been catching people since 06. My uncle thought He'd be able to hide it for life. I guess that's where my talent started." I laughed as the class began to fill up. A few students around the room looked at Skylar with caution and took the seats farthest away from him. It only made his smile widen.

"Okay class. Since we took the test yesterday, why don't we move on. It's February so why not start with a romance novel?"
