Chapter Eight: Helping Out

[Cilyn Carson]

"You KISSED him? I thought you weren't sure..." I nodded and banged my head on my desk. Brayson sighed and rubbed my back.

"Did he seem awkward about it? Like did he try to ask you why?" I shook my head.

"I told him that I wasn't supposed to say anything until I was ready. Then I said that he didn't say I couldn't do that. I don't know what came over me!" he laughed and turned away from me.

"I'm sorry. This is just too iron— "two knocks came from the door and I turned to it.

"Come in!" Brayson laughed even harder when he saw who it was.

"Oh my God! Please tell me that is who I think it is?" I stared at Zales as Brayson continued to die next to me.

"What can I help you with?" Zales looked between me and Brayson before he spoke.

"I'm not going to ask, but I was wondering if I could stay in here for lunch?" I looked at him for several moments.

"You didn't talk to him, did you?" He gave a nervous laugh before shaking his head.

"Go out there and talk to him. If you don't I'll have Brayson here lock you two in a room together!" Zales looked over at Brayson before looking at me.

"You wouldn't really do that. Right?" I raised an eyebrow.

"You think I won't? Actually, Brayson why don't you go and retrieve Leon from the lunch room?" He laughed for a second more and patted my back.

"Good luck with your love life, Teach. I'm sure Dr. Sutts would sure love to be kissed more!" I glared at him as he left the room.

"You and Colt kissed?" I sighed and looked around the room.

"More like I kissed him then went to bed like a coward. Why didn't you talk to Leon?"

"He went home early and then I lost all my courage and started to avoid him." I sighed.

"Looks like we're both cowards, aye?" He shrugged and took a seat at a desk. He pressed his forehead to the desk and we sat in silence. Several minutes later a knock came to the door.

"Come in!" Leon popped his head in and looked at me.

"You needed me?" I sighed.

"Brayson's not coming back is he?" He shook his head. I motioned him in and I noticed Zales moved his spot into a corner, where Leon couldn't see him.

"Take a seat. I want to ask you a question." He shut the door behind him and walked over the desks before sitting down.

"Do you have any romantic feelings for Jaslick?" He stared at me for a few moments before he looked down.

"I do... But he can't love me back. I did things to him that are unforgivable. I don't think he's even forgiven me. I don't know what to do." I stared at the corner of the room to see Zales standing up and staring at Leon.

"Is that all you wanted?" I shook my head.

"No. Zales. Do you have anything to say?" Leon's eyes went wide.

"I'm sorry for doubting you?" I sighed and stood up.

"Are you going to kiss him or are you going to sit there dumbfounded?" Leon shook his head and stood before turning around.

"So does that mean?"

"I love you too, Lion." I smile came across Leon's face and Zales walked over to him. Leon held him close as Zales hugged him.

"Didn't I tell you everything was going to work out?" Zales nodded and pulled away from Leo and walked over to me.

"Thank you. And gain some courage yourself. Talk to Colt and stop being like me." He hugged me and I laughed.

"Us older people aren't like you guys. We like to plan everything through before we screw up. But even then we don't follow those plans." Zales pulled away.

"Well, I know you guys love each other. Anyone can see it. Just go for it." I laughed and nodded.

"I'll try. You guys should go before my class comes in and assumes the worst for you two." They nodded and walked out hand in hand. It made me wish for my younger years and my old confidence.

[Isaac Colt Sutts]

"So he kissed you. That's not the worst thing in the world." I sighed as I bounced Andrew.

"I guess so. But still, he's supposed to be figuring out his feelings." Max shrugged.

"He is. Just in a different way than you expected. He doesn't mean to hurt you. He's just trying his emotions out. You did something else. You tried to be jealous when you weren't. He might actually love you before the end of the week." I groaned as I stopped bouncing him.

"Well, what do I do? Just let him do it?" He laughed and nodded.

"That's exactly what you do. He might not do it again for a while because of the way you reacted but he's going to keep surprising you. He already loves you for you. He loves the guy that jumps at his every word, the guy who will help in any way, the guy that he kissed last night. He loves you, and you love him. Like I said before— "

"Just give him time." He nodded.

"See? You do listen!" I set Andrew on the floor and watched as he began to crawl around. I looked up at Max.

"Was it this hard when Alexie was figuring out his feelings?"

"No. But that might be because he wasn't going through heartbreak and that I wasn't that hard to him when it came to showing his feelings." I sighed.

"Well, maybe I should do it this once. I'll let him run his own life while he figures everything out." He nodded and stood up.

"My break's over. I'll see you around." I waved Dr. Noels goodbye before I picked Andrew backup.

"How would you like it if I was with your dad?" He clapped and squirmed in my grip.

"Well, then I guess we have to fulfill my future son's dream, huh?"
