Chapter 6:

519 9 1

I stared out the window as the different cars sped past us. The cars literally sped past us because we were going the speed limit on the highway. It probably wasn't ideal for the people behind us, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

Then again, it did seem as if Nick was driving slower than the speed limit. I decided not to say anything considering my safety would be in jeopardy if he was going faster than the limit.

"So where are we going?" I asked once again. "I think I have the right to know."

"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you, right?"

"I could really care less if it were a surprise or not." I shrugged, "I'm not too big on surprises."

"Well, you are tonight." He smiled.

We continued driving for a couple more minutes before Nick made a few quick turns, then stopped abruptley in front of a closed off area.

"What are we doing here?" I asked, furrowing my brows. "It's closed off, and it's in some sort of off roading foresty area. This doesn't seem like a place where-"

"Stop talking for a second, and just follow me, okay?" He said with a chuckle.

We both got out of the car and walked towards the wire fence. I looked at him nervously, "You're not gonna make me break into here are you?"

He shrugged, "It's not really breaking in because it's not really anyone's property. I mean, it's a forest, dude." He laughed, "And I go here all the time with Mikey."

"Nick..." I whispered.

"Jst stop worrying and come on," he whispered as he started tapping different sections on the fence.

Finally, a small part of the fence slightly moved. Nick pushed it, and it swung open like a door. It was like someone can with a saw and carved out some secret door. I guess no one really cared enough to fix it. That is, if anyone really cared about this area anyway. I mean, the fence seemed to be covered in small splotches of rush, with millions of spider webs and random little plants growing on the bottom. The top sharp sections of fence weren't so sharp anymore. It looked as if they were sanded down, or cut so that they wouldn't hurt if you did end up climbing up. All in all, the fence seemed old and as if it was put there too many years ago.

Nick slipped through the whole, dusting off his pants, then holding his hand out for me to grab. I grabbed it, and had him pull me on, rather than me trying and having my dress get caught or something.

He began walking forward, still holding my hand and guiding me through the dark foresty area. Luckily, the moon illuminated the forest, making it easier to see where we were going.

"Where are we going?" I asked impatiently.

"Almost here, just wait." He replied calmly.

I let out a sigh and continued walking. He stopped, suddenly, and pulled me closer to him so I could see what he was looking at.

"Wow," I whispered as I laid eyes on the beautiful body of water in front of me.

It shone under the moon light, reflecting the white moon on the water. It looked like a painting, it was surreal. It was also very quiet compared to what I'm used to. It was all nature in this place, and it couldn't be more perfect.

"It's nice, right?" He asked.

"Amazing, really." I nodded.

He took a seat on a grassy patch by the water, then patted it for me to sit beside him. I hesitated, considering I was wear probably one of the most beautiful dresses I own.

"I really like it Nick, but why are we dressed so fancy? I'm kinda hungry too," I whispered.

"Just sit down here and look at it for a few. It's peaceful and it's nice. We don't get to look at stuff like this in this time of day. We're always so caught up in everything that we forget how beautiful the simple things can be." He whispered as he laid down. "Even the sky seems to look nicer now. Way nicer than what I see when I'm rushing into the car to go somewhere."

I didn't know how passionate he was about nature. I wouldn't expect it, really. Nonetheless, I did what Nick did; staring at the sky, only hearing the sound of our unison breathing and rippling water.

"You never really get to enjoy the small things like this. It's nice to just come here and think, or just clear your mind. No one really comes here anymore." He stated. "Plus, when you're here, you kind of have to look at it, you know."

I nodded my head, and turned my head to look at him. He was just staring up at the sky, probably taking in all the beauty.

"I love it here," I stated.

He smiled, "I thought you would. But if you don't mind, we should go and continue our adventure to a restaurant because I'm starving."
