Chapter 18:

279 7 2

Ring, ring.

"He's not answering," I whispered.

Ring, ring.

"It's just ringing, there's no answer."

Ring, ring, ring.

"That's seven rings already. Maybe he doesn't have his phone with him or something."

"Just wait a few more," Kiera instructed.

And I did. I waited and waited and waited. Listened to that horrible ring over and over and over again.

"Maybe it's a sign," I sighed as I placed my phone down.

"Or maybe he's out with his family or something. I mean Ariana, don't go judging your likeliness with him over the fact that he didn't answer his phone. Seriously, I call you all the time and you never answer... That doesn't mean that you hate me, or you don't want to be my friend. It means that you're probably doing something that doesn't involve your phone being beside you."

I sighed in defeat because she was right. I was probably just over thinking everything. "I guess you're right. Maybe I'll call him again later..."

"Screw that! I say you go to his house and talk face to face!" She exclaimed.

"How about I just call first. You know, take it slow," I suggested.

"Okay, whatever you feel like doing," she shrugged. "I just wanted to see what would happen if you went to his house..."

-

Spring break was over way too quickly. It was a few weeks since I called Nick, and I hadn't tried again since. Kiera would ask if I called, and I'd just agree and lie saying that he just didn't answer.

I didn't see him at school. It was like he dropped out or something, because he wasn't in any of my classes anymore. They didn't even call him out when they did attendance.

Nash would shoot glances at me in the hallway. I just pretended that I didn't notice.

"Today were gonna write letters. It doesn't need to be proper at all. It just must contain a greeting, a few topics to discuss and a good bye. It must be at least 3 paragraphs long. It will be due next class. You will be reading it," Ms. Mullistar stated.

"Who do we have to address it to?" A boy asked.

"Anyone you desire," she smiled.

"Do we have to read it out loud?" Another student asked.

"I will be reviewing the letters, and the ones that stand out to me will be read out loud. Please get to work now so that we can hopefully read a few out before class ends," she replied.

Everyone quickly began writing. Me on the other hand, had no idea who to write it to. No one specific popped into my head. I could write the letter to one of the members of my favorite band, or maybe even to my best friend. Then again, it probably wouldn't have the deep meaning that I wanted my letter to have.

I placed my pen on the first line of the paper and began writing.

-

"Who did you write your letter to?" Kiera asked as we walked home.

"Luke Hemmings... You know, from 5SOS," I stated. "How about you?"

"I wrote mine to my ex," she replied. "It's pretty deep. At the bottom, I made sure to specify that I couldn't read it out loud for reasons... Hopefully I don't have to read it."

"I couldn't think of anyone to write it to," I sighed.

"Why didn't you write it to Nick? I mean, it's a good way to get out your frustration..."

"That's true," I nodded.

"Yeah. Do it! He doesn't even go to our class anymore, so it wouldn't matter if you read it out loud or not."

Once I got home, I made my way to the kitchen and made myself a snack. I heated up a quesadilla that my mom brought home yesterday, and poured myself a glass of iced tea. Then, I walked up to my room, making sure not to spill my iced tea.

"Ariana is that you? Someone called for you today, but hung up before I could ask who it was," my mom yelled from her room. "Sounded like a guy."

"I wasn't expecting a call, so I have no idea who that was." I yelled back from inside of my room. "If they call again, just give the phone to me please!"

"Of course honey," my mom replied.

"Okay, thanks mom. I'll be in my room doing homework. I heated up the quesadilla from yesterday by the way."

"Okay honey," she said more quiet.

I took my notebook out of my backpack and placed it beside my plate of food. "Well, let's get this done Ariana..." I said to myself.

I began writing the letter.

Dear Nick

I stared at the sheet of paper for a while before writing again.

How are you?

Why would I ask him how he was? Do I really care how he is? I erased it.

How is everything?

That didn't sound good. I erased it again and stuck with 'how are you?'

"Why am I writing this letter...? Why am I writing this...?" I whispered to myself as I tapped my pencil on my desk. "What should I talk about? What do I want to discuss?"

I hate you and I never want to speak to you again.

Too harsh, Ariana. Too harsh. I erased it.

"This is gonna take a while..." I sighed.

Here's a quick update! It's literally a filler chapter, so that's why it's kinda short and lacking. I'll  make sure to update again tomorrow if I don't get the chapter up tonight. I just thought I'd update because I haven't updated in forever, lol. Thanks for reading!
