That night I tossed and turned in my bed, well I didn't really know who's bed this was. I couldn't stop thinking about me and Kai's argument. I had the right to be mad at him. He killed his family. And he had the audacity to compare that to my family.

I pushed off the covers before getting out of the bed and leaving the room. I walked across the hallway to where Kai was.

I opened the door and closed it behind me quietly. "Kai?" I whispered out loud hoping he was awake.

"What are you doing in here?" He groaned.

"I-I couldn't sleep." I stuttered noticing that he didn't have a shirt on and his hair was ruffled.

"That sucks. Get out of my room." He rolled his eyes.

I ignored what he said and walked over, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"I wanted to talk."

"There's nothing to talk about Nayeli now go to bed."

"Did you really mean what you said? That my family's dysfunctional?" I sat criss crossed.

He sighed and sat up once he realized that I wouldn't leave until he communcated with me.

"Look, Eli, sometimes I say things. Sometimes I don't mean them, sometimes I do but you shouldn't think much of it."

"You're not a monster you know." I whispered after a moment of silence.

"What?"

"I mean what you did to your family was pretty fucked but no matter your capabilities you and your sister should've done the merge fair and square. Everyone deserves a second chance, Kai." I shrugged with a faint smile on my face.

He stayed silent for a little while before finally speaking up. "Thank you."

I put my hand over his and couldn't help but notice how much faster his heart was beating.

He cleared his throat before removing his hand from mine. "You can stay. But you're sleeping on the floor."

I smiled and got off of the bed.

...

I woke up to being kicked off of the bed by none other than Kai.

I landed hard on the floor with a thud. I glared at Kai and held my now bruised arm. "What the hell, Kai!"

"I said the floor, not on my bed clinging on to me for dear life." He rolled his eyes.

"Oh," I looked down in embarrassment. "Sorry."

"Alright, get up. We're taking a little road trip." He got up and put a shirt on.

"What? To where?" I asked, still on the floor.

"Pack your bags, beautiful. We're going to Mystic Falls."

...

"Kai you realize Mystic Falls is like a three day drive, right?" I leaned on the car with my arms crossed.

"Yes, I realize that Nayeli. Ugh I don't wanna be in the car with you how can we get there quicker?" He groaned.

"You really are the nicest guy Malachai." I teased, rolling my eyes.

"Never call me that." He glared at me. "Can't you just speed us there or something?"

I glared at him in annoyance. "I'm a vampire, not the freaking Flash."

He shrugged getting into the driver's side. "I guess it's just you and me blondie."

I sighed before getting in the passenger's side after him.

He casually shoved the map onto my lap.

I gave him a look and he just smirked at me before starting the engine.

I huffed before straightening out the map.

...

It's been a few hours in the car with Kai and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I read him off directions to get to Mystic Falls. The whole way it was us making fun of each other but for once I don't think Kai meant it in a serious way.

Our mixed laughter died down and a silence fell between us. It wasn't an awkward silence though. It was comfortable.

"Are we friends?" I looked over at him.

He glanced over at me for a quick second before returning his focus to the road.

"Well I don't want to kill you most of the time, so that's gotta count for something right?" He teased with a chuckle.

I laughed, shaking my head before looking down at the map to tell the next direction.

"Kai, we're supposed to be going straight why did you turn?" I asked him confused.

"I think I have an idea on where we're going, and I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to turn here." He disagreed.

"No, Kai. I'm reading off the map right now, we're supposed to go straight." I argued.

He stopped the car suddenly making me lean forward before being slammed down onto my seat again. "Um, Ow."

He unbuckled his seatbelt before turning to me and attempting to grab the map only to have it pulled away from him by me.

I giggled as he kept trying to get the map but I kept it out of his reach.

He climbed over and leaned to try to take it from my grasp.

I kept leaning back until my head hit the window behind me. My heart pounded when I realized how close we were.

"Give me the map." He whispered, his face inches from mine.

"No." I mumbled.

He looked from eyes to my lips and back to my eyes again.

I decided, screw it, and leaned up to kiss him.

His hand went wrapped around my waist as he kissed me back, his lips moving against mine.

I placed my hand on his neck and kissed him deeper.

He pulled away and realized what had just happened. He sat back in his seat quickly and cleared his throat, avoiding eye contact.

...

We sat in silence, yet again. But this time it was awkward. Extremely awkward. He wouldn't speak to me, let alone even look at me.

I sighed and finally spoke since the last three hours, "Are we not gonna talk about what happened?" I looked over at him.

He didn't even acknowledge me but I continued, "Kai, you can't just ignore me for the next few days. Maybe you're just pushing away your feelings but-"

"I don't have feelings for you." He snapped.

"Then why did you kiss me back?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Because I felt bad for you."

"You're a liar. Your heart beats differently when you lie, Kai." I smirked.

"Just let it go, alright!"

"Fine." I rolled my eyes as he continued to drive.
