I opened my eyes slowly and looked at the room around me. I woke up in a comfortable bed but it wasn't the same bed I slept in in Elena and Caroline's dorm. I looked to the empty space next to me but knew somebody had slept there because of the wrinkled sheets.
I heard groaning and paper crumbling and looked to my right and saw Kai frustratedly writing on a piece of paper at a desk before tossing that paper too.
"Kai, what are you doing? And where are we?" I asked him and looked down at my shirt, realizing it was different from the one I had on before.
"My apartment." He mumbled but not really focused on the conversation seeing as he ignored my first question.
I rose my eyebrows in shock, "When did you have the time to get a freaking apartment room?" I looked around again before walking over to him, leaning over his shoulder.
"Since I escaped the prison world." He growled and tossed another sheet of paper.
I grabbed his arm, "Okay, calm down. What the hell are you so upset about?" I furrowed my eyebrows, glancing around at the many crumpled balls of paper he had previously discarded.
He sighed and looked away in silence for a while before finally making eye contact with me. "Ever since I merged with Luke I started.. feeling things."
"You mean like emotions?" I raised an eyebrow trying to get at what he was explaining.
"Yes, exactly. And I just couldn't stop thinking about all that I've done- Nayeli how can you forgive me for the horrible, horrible things I've done? I'm a monster and you're still with me. Why?"
I shook my head, "It's easy Kai. Everyone deserves a second chance. Because deep down everybody's human. And I see the human side of you, Kai. You're not a monster." I held one of his hands.
He rested his hand on my cheek, while the other one laid softly on my hip. My breath quickened as his eyes flickered from my lips then back to my eyes again. Without thinking, I smashed my lips on his.
He instantly kissed back, pushing me against the wall. His hand moved from my waist down to my thigh as I pressed my body against his and continued to kiss him.
His lips trailed off from mine to my neck as he left little marks before whispering, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
I nodded softly with my arms wrapped around his neck. I felt him smile into my neck, "Good because I want you. Bad." He confessed.
I bit my lip before whispering into his ear, "The feeling's mutual, Parker. So why don't you make it happen."
...
"Hello?" I called out into the Salvatore house before stepping in and making my way over to the kitchen. "I forgot how massive this house was." I laughed teasingly with my hands on my hips as Damon and Elena glared at me.
"Yum, cupcakes." Kai appeared behind me with a satisfied grin and Elena's eyes widened before she looked annoyed. "Sorry, are we interrupting something?"
"What are you doing here?" Damon groaned, clearly annoyed with our presence.
"Erm, rudeness." I pretended to pout and tilted my head.
"Funniest thing. I need your help." Kai admitted and held up the white envelope he spent all morning working on.
"First time, too. What took you so long?" I teased Kai.
He smirked and wrapped his arm around my waist, "I guess your body was a distraction."
Elena's mouth opened in shock and Damon cringed, pretending to throw up.
"Why would we give a letter to Jo?" Elena changed the subject quickly and crossed her arms stubbornly making me want to roll my eyes. However, I didn't.
"I can't find her using a locater spell. And, you know, good on her because under normal circumstances I'd be super jazzed to gouge out her belly button." Kai sat on the table as I took a cupcake, winking at Damon when he glared at me.
"Why would we help you Kai?"
"-In case you haven't figured out by now, I'm a sociopath. I know, shocker." Kai said sarcastically when Elena gave a fake surprised expression before looking at him with a 'duh' face.
"I like being a sociopath you know? I'm not burdened by things like guilt or love." He rambled making me frown at his last listing. "So then, this merge happened with my brother, Luke, and I won. Which is great because I absorbed his ability to do magic but now I can't stop thinking about how Luke died. How Liv's life is ruined. For some horrible reason, I can't shake how badly I feel about it."
"You feel bad?" Elena raised her eyebrows in shock and I glared at her.
"Yes, so when I absorbed Luke's magic I must have gotten some of his qualities or something, like empathy." Kai rolled his eyes, "So I Googled how to process emotional pain and they said if you write everything down in a letter and burn it, you'll be healed. So I started writing and this water literally started pooling in my eyes. Has that ever happened to you? Like, water just oozing out of my eyeballs like I'm some alien creature excreting fluids."
Elena rose her eyebrow looking at him strangely, "You mean you cried?"
"Yes! And after that was done, I burned the letter. The feelings are still there." He smiled sarcastically before looking down, "So I really feel strongly that Jo needs to know how sorry I am. For destroying our family. But lets face it, guys, all right? I mean, Elena, you of all people should be willing to look past the things I've done to see there's good somewhere in me."
I shrugged and crossed my arms looking over at the brunette he was addressing, "You did it with Damon."
Damon sat up and interrupted, "Okay, I think we're done here." He turned to Elena but she only stopped him.
"Actually, what if there's something they can do for us in exchange?"
...
"Sad attempt at iron welding.." Kai mumbled, examining the ascendant and frowning when it came loose.
"I tried to fix it." Elena shrugged.
"How are we supposed to bring Bonnie back with this?" I glared at Damon, pointing to the ascendant that Kai was holding.
"I thought combining the powers of a vampire-witch and the all-powerful leader of the Gemini Coven would go a lot smoother than this." Elena teased while she leaned against the pool table and gave Kai and I frowns.
"I destroyed it so that it couldn't be used again, Elena." I glared at the brunette, "I didn't think you guys cared enough about Bonnie to actually try and fix it." I mumbled staring at the damaged item.
"Can we use it to send a message at least?" Damon asked and I gave him a 'really' look, "It is her birthday after all."
Kai paused his movements and looked over at Damon, "It is?"
I glared at Damon as he began to guilt trip Kai into fixing the ascendant but Kai was oblivious to it all. "One of the crown wheels survived, that's a positive. Plus I am mega powerful."
