"I don't know when she'll wake up!" Sebastian yelled at Maureen.
"I'm sorry. I just hate waiting around all day." She countered. Meliorn came in with the warlock. He had the most peculiar name. Harold or something.
The last one he needed was a werewolf. And he knew just the one...
"Have you seen Clary?" Izzy asked walking into the weapons room.
"No, why?" Jace asked aiming at another target.
"We were supposed to begin the search this morning. I've looked everywhere, but can't find her."
Jace sighed. "I'll go to Magnus's and ask him to track her. She probably just needed some space." He said coolly.
But as soon as he reached the bottom of the Institutes' steps, he took off running. There was more than just Clary on his mind. He wanted to set Magnus straight for hurting Alec.
Not much had changed at Magnus's since the first time Jace had been there. Jace used an open rune to get through the front door and took the stairs, buzzing Magnus's apartment bell. It was safer that way because Magnus could be playing video games naked or really anything. Magnus yanked the door open, looking furious. He was wearing a black silk dressing gown, his feet were bare, his dark hair was tangled, "What are you doing here?"
"My," said Jace, "You're so unwelcoming."
"That's because you're not welcome."
"I thought we were friends," said Jace.
"No, you're Alec's friend, Alec was my boyfriend so I had to put up with you. But now he's not my boyfriend so I don't have to put up with you."
"I think you should get back together with Alec," said Jace.
Magnus looked at him, "And why is that?"
"Because he is miserable!" Jace practically shouted. Magnus moved out of the way and Jace stepped inside. The place looked horrible, but smelt worse.
Magnus rolled onto his back and put his feet up on the arm of the sofa. "What do you care if Alec's miserable?"
"What do I care?" Jace said, so loudly that Chairman Meow rolled off the couch and landed on the floor. "Of course I care about Alec; he's my best friend, my parabatai. And he's unhappy. And so are you, by the look of things. Takeout containers everywhere, you haven't done anything to fix up the place, your cat looks dead -"
"He's not dead." Magnus countered.
"I think," Jace said changing the topic, "that you don't want to tell your secrets, so you decided to break up with Alec because.."
"STOP TALKING!" Magnus bellowed. "You Herondales always have a mouth, don't you!"
"I think everyone has a mouth." Jace mumbled.
Regaining his composure, Magnus said "If you only came here to tell me why I broke up with Alec there's the door." He pointed.
"I need you to come back to the Institute with me." Jace said.
"Forget it."
"Please. It's Clary. We don't know where she is." He said, careful not to cross anymore boundaries.
"Fine." Jace knew that this was probably the last time Magnus Bane would help them in this lifetime, but he was okay with that if it meant knowing Clary was safe.
They cut through Central Park to make it to the Institute faster. Jace saw a body on the ground. As he neared, he got paler. He was running when he realized the figure had the same build as his parabatai.
"Alec." Jace whispered. Then, louder, "Alec! Alec!" he flipped over the body to see that it in fact was Alec. A knife protruding from his stomach and he was colder than a freezer.
"By the Angel." Jace murmured. Then he remembered that a warlock was next to him. "Magnus! do something!"
Magnus stood paralyzed still trying to understand how this was all possible. The man whom he loved. Dead. Gone. Forever. He couldn't live like that. He was suddenly snapped back into reality and realized Jace was yelling at him.
"Magnus he has a pulse! Do something!" He screamed.
The warlock surged forward and started to operate on the one he loved most of all.
