"How do you feel about me?"
He glances up at me, completely frozen. I blink and feel eyes moisten. Idiot, why are you going to cry? He hasn't even said anything yet. Don't cry.
It feels like it's been hours, just looking at each other silently. His expression isn't emotionless, yet it's completely unreadable. It isn't intimidating, but it isn't soft.
"Levi?" I ask. I'm getting flustered, pleading to Levi like this. Why am I even doing this? Everything seems hazy and unreal.
Looking down, Levi wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him. His head is against my stomach, clutching onto me tightly but not suffocating me.
I run my hand through his hair, softly pushing it out of his face.
After a little while, he stands up, releasing me.
"S-sorry," I mutter. "It was a stupid question, I shouldn't have-"
"Shut up," he sighs, pecking me on the lips softly. "Let's go to bed."
I grab his hand and follow him up the steps into his bedroom.
Neither of us change, and I cuddle up against him silently.
I didn't get a direct answer, but that's enough for a night, I decide.
He falls asleep almost immediately, and I leave a kiss on his exposed collarbone.
"Oh, Levi," I whisper into his neck. "I wish I understood you."
---
I awake before Levi this time, thankfully enough. I definitely do not want a repeat of the last time he woke up before me.
Sitting on my knees beside him, I poke at his chest. "Levi," I say in a sing-song voice. "Le-vi."
He groans and buries his face in his hands. "Let me sleep, brat."
"It's my last day though, Le-vi," I whine.
He lets out a sigh and finally gets up. "At least get out of my room so I can change."
I comply and exit the room, sitting in the kitchen, waiting.
This evening, I'd be on my way to join the Trainee Corps. Away from Levi. With new people. Away from Levi.
I shake the thought away. I should be enjoying these last few hours with Levi, not moping because there was a chance I wouldn't see him again.
He comes out in a grey button down shirt and dark blue jeans, combing through his hair with his hand.
"What do you wanna do today?" he asks.
"Oh, uh, just hang out and stuff, but I should go change first."
"Well your house is only a bit of a walk away, do you want to go together?"
He stretches his arms out above of his head, his shirt coming up to expose a bit of his stomach.
"Sure," I smile.
I'm a little reluctant, though; I've been accidentally neglecting my mom to hang out with Levi, which hadn't really been a problem, since she was out of town most of the time. However, she knows about me hanging out with Levi and that I'll be leaving today, and I have yet to say goodbye to her.
We each put on our jackets and make our way outside. It's early afternoon; sunny yet windy. People pass us on the sidewalk; the streets are busy today, since it's a Saturday. Everybody in the district that plans on joining the Trainee Corps are planning on going by horse carriage. I'm to ride with my mother this evening.
