LEIGH-ANNE'S P.O.V
My clothes lay at the end of my bed. I stare at them with a towel wrapped around my body. I really didn't want to go to school. My last school was horrible to me and bullied me for my race and the way I looked. It took my family two years before we could save up and move. We moved out of High Wycombe to South Shields. I'm really hoping that life will be easier at this new school. After about five more minutes of sitting butt naked on the end of my bed, I finally decided to change into my clothes.
My jeans were tight and I had a black sweater on. My hair was curly but in a ponytail and I had a little bit of makeup on. I carried myself to the kitchen and went into the cupboard and got out some honey nut cereal and some milk. I make up my bowl of cereal on go into the lounge room where my mum was sitting on the couch drinking coffee and I flop down next to her.
"Good morning Leigh," she says and takes a sip of her coffee.
"Morning," I say quietly, not taking my eye off of my bowl.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, of course," I lie.
She smiles and turns back to the television. I quickly finish my breakfast and head back to the kitchen. After the dishes had been cleaned I grabbed my school bag and head for the door. It was a three minute walk to the bus stop so I didn't bother putting my earphones in. When I arrived at the bus stop, I took a seat next to a girl with brown hair. After a minute of sitting in silence she turned to me.
"Are you new?" She asks, in a strong Geordie accent.
"Yeah. How'd you know?" I say turning to her.
"I know everyone that comes to this bus. I'm Jeed," she puts her hand out.
"Jeed?" I say, taking her hand and shaking it.
"No, Jeed."
"Huh?"
"J A D E," she spells it out and I feel a rush of embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, I'm stupid."
"Aw, no you aren't. My accent it really strong, no one really understands me," she chuckles and a rush of happiness fills me. I'm getting along with someone.
"Anyways, what's your name sweetie?"
"I'm Leigh-Anne."
Just as the words slipped out of my mouth the bus pulled up. Jade got up and beckoned me to stand up too. We quickly pay and thank the bus driver and I follow Jade down the aisle.
She sits up at the window seat at the back and I take the seat next to her. We sit in silence for a few minutes. Jade was staring out the window and I was playing with the hem of my shirt. The bus pulled up at another stop. A girl with long blonde came to the back of the bus.
"Hey Jade, whose this?" The blonde asks.
"This is Leigh-Anne. Leigh-Anne, this is Perrie."
"Hi, you can call me Leigh," I flash her a weak smile.
"You can call me Pez," she grins and sits next to me.
"Are you new?" Perrie asks.
"Yeah, I'm from High Wycombe."
"Cool! Well I hope you will like it here. It's... mostly friendly."
"Perrie!" Jade says and turns around quickly.
"Jade, she needs to know."
"Know what?" I question.
"Well there's a group of girls at our school. They aren't very nice," Perrie starts.
I nod, even though on the inside my heart is racing. I don't want to encounter anymore mean people.
"They're a band. They call themselves 'Fifth Harmony'."
"Okay, I'll keep my eye out," I say, trying not to make my voice shake.
I slump back into my seat. My chest has become tight and I feel a panic attack rising. I quickly get up and say, "I'll b-be r-right back."
I stand up and look around. Thre is nowhere to go, I can just jump off the bus for a moment. It becomes harder to breathe every second. I quickly walk to the front of the bus and take out my inhaler. I take in a few puffs and the bus driver was watching me through his mirror.
"Are you alright darl?" He asks and plasters on a smile.
"I-I'm fine thanks," I flash him a weak smile and head back to Jade and Perrie.
"Is everything okay?" Jade asks, concern in her voice.
"Yeah, I just had to ask the bus driver a question.
I take a seat and rest my head on the back of the chair. I let Perrie and Jade talk to rest of the way to school. We finally arrive at the school and I could feel the nerves washing over me. We all walked off the bus. Perrie ran quickly and hug a ginger haired girl.
"That's Jesy, her girlfriend, and my best friend," Jade smiles at me sweetly.
"That's very cute," I smile too.
I watch as Perrie kissed Jesy on the cheek and sits down next to her on the bench. Jade walks off towards the bench and I follow slowly behind her.
"Jes, this is Leigh-Anne. She's new."
"Hello love!" She beams and pulls me into a hug.
Jade takes a seat on the bench and I stay standing up. I looked around the school yard and noticed that almost everyone was light skinned or tan. It was just going to be like my last school. I watched as a group of four girls walks up to us. Perrie and Jesy's smile quickly disappear.
"Who's this?" asks the one with black hair pointing to me.
"I-I'm Leigh."
"No-one was talking to you."
My heart begins racing. I think it's those Fifth Harmony people they were talking about before. The short one was just about to say something but the bell rang. I picked up my bag and I didn't say anything to the girls, I just went straight to the office.
