Standing outside my door was a girl, maybe a little taller than me. Light brown hair framed her heart shaped face, almost covering her piercing blue eyes.
"Hi, you must be Fray," she said.
"I don't mean to sound rude, but do I know you?" I asked, confused.
"Oh right, um, I'm Ella, a friend of Jack's, God, you don't know jack do you, um," she mumbled, "I'm ELLA, a friend of Finn's twin brother Jack," she said, smiling.
"Um, why are you here?" I asked, still holding onto the door.
"Um, Jack sent me here to pick you up, because Finn and the boys were busy," she said. "He told me, urgh, what was it, um, he told me to tell you something, urgh, what was it?" Her eyes were squeezed shut, lines forming on her forehead - she was in deep concentration. "Oh! Yes! Finn told me to tell you 'toastie', said you'd understand. I thought it was bollocks, but, um, he said you would be able to trust me and come with me if I told you, so, toastie, I guess."
I smiled, thinking it was sweet how he remembered what I had compared him to.
"So," Ella said, bringing me back to earth, "Are you going to come?" She said, gesturing her hands to the lift.
"Right, yes, sorry," I said, locking the door behind me. We were in my apartment when I said that, so I figured I could trust her. I threw my keys in to my clutch, before following her to the lift, the doors opening just as I joined her. I stepped inside.
"You look fantastic, by the way," she said.
"Thanks," I smiled at her, "I'm Ivy Fray," I said, sticking my hand out.
"Oh, believe me, I know, I'm Ella Grace," she replied, accepting my handshake.
I then prayed that the lift would hurry up, as I still felt relatively uncomfortable, and as if answering my wish, the doors opened, and I followed Ella to a red mini. I climbed into the passenger seat after Ella unlocked the car, and got in herself.
"He should be already there, so I wouldn't think you would have to sit alone or anything, something last minute came up, you know..." She said.
No, I don't know, because I have no idea what kind of world you and jack and Finn and all these people live in, I thought.
The rest of the drive consisted of Ella checking her phone several times after is went off, and then the radio silently filling the car. It then hit me that this was the second time in under 24 hours that I had got into car with a stranger, what was happening to me?
Soon Ella pulled up outside a grand and posh looking (suddenly I was thankful I had decided to wear a dress) Italian restaurant, named Lungo il Fiume. Down by the river. It was a nice name, and at least it wasn't something soppy like, where love begins, or, the heart of love. God forbid.
"You'll be fine, just go in there, and ask for Finn harries," she said.
"Thanks Ella, lovely meeting you," I said, before getting out the car and walking towards the entrance, the bright name hovering above me in cursive writing.
I walked into the restaurant, the carpet instantly muffling my loud heels, and approached a man by a counter in front me. He was looking down at a book, flicking through pages.
"Excuse me," I smiled.
He looked up. "Hello miss, what can I do for you?" He said, in a happy tone.
"I'm here for Finn Harries," I said. I saw his body tense, but his smile stayed plastered on his face.
"Right, well that's table," he looked down at his book, "27, Seth," he called, a man was at his side in no time. "Would you kindly lead, miss?"
I was blatant to his question until I actually realised that he was asking me what my surname was.
"Oh right, Payne, Fray Payne," I said.
"Well Seth, would you kindly lead miss Payne to table 27," I saw his features harden at the table number, before he turned around and led me through the restaurant into the patio, which opened out onto a deck, overlooking the river, reflecting on the name. Various tables were scattered around, and as I scanned them, I saw him.
He was looking out over the water, the sun shining on his face, illuminating his eyes and bringing out the colour in his hair. A grey casual suit adorned his figure, white shirt unbuttoned at the top. I informed Seth that he didn't have to take me all the way, and when he left, I took the time to really look at Finn. His foot was tapping up and down on the wooden deck, in a steady rhythm, whilst his fingers toyed with the ring in his hand, putting it back on his finger, taking it off, twisting it around, then putting it back on again, there was an ongoing sequence. His pale skin was brought to life beneath the shining sun, cheekbones standing out against the tight skin, pink lips moist. And his eyes, I could see them from here. The emerald colour was a beautiful contrast to his ivory skin, gold flecks dancing about in his irises. He was an angel, and what I didn't understand was, how could anyone be afraid of an angel?
After admiring him for enough time, but moreover the fact that I probably looked like a complete doughnut staring at a man on the other side of the dock, I decided to walk over to him. My heels came back to life on the hard flooring of the deck, but I tried to be as quiet as possible as I walked over, but it seemed that it wasn't needed, because Finn looked like he was in his own little world.
I got to the table, and said, "Hi, Finn."
His head whipped round, so I could his whole face, and that's when I saw the fresh black eye he had.
