"What?" I looked over at him.
"I was meant to go, and, sort something out, but I rung up Jack and told him to deal with it," he explained.
"What about Jimmy?" I asked.
He paused. "I left him with Harry and Zayn, don't know what they did with him," his hands overlapped as he steered the car round a corner.
I gulped, looking out the window. I didn't particurlarly want to know what happened to Jimmy, so I didn't question the matter any further. The shops lined up on the pavement were tatty and old, some broken down, others with flashing open signs hanging from the other side of the glass. Looming buildings sat on top, blocking the sunlight and casting dark shadows which masksed the broken tarmac of the roads. Figures walked along the pavement, one lady, rushing with a phone balanced between her ear and her shoulder, various bags weighing her down. Another, a man buffing, his guitar case open, a few coppers lay inside. A worn, messy man, sitting almost motionless on the ground, an empty disposable coffee cup in his hand. Tatty clothes hung on his limp wrinkly body, showing the fragility of his anatomy. London was beautiful in some places, but in others it really needed work.
I tore my eyes away from the concrete, focusing on the road ahead.
"What were you looking at?" Finn asked me.
"Outside."
"This isn't a nice part of town," he said.
Silence.
I closed my eyes, thinking about my life. Sure, I had had some bad times, parts of my life that weren't the best of things, but I had more than others. Friendship. Joy. Pride. Hope.
But what about the other one, that four letter word. Love. Had I ever experienced love before? I think I realised I loved Mark the night I surprised him. I think I realised he didn't love me the night I surprised him as well.
But what about Finn? Did I love him? Did I love Finn? Yes I was attracted to him, I had some sort of affection towards him, but did I love him?
He had so much. A priceless penthouse in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. An iconic car which stood out from everything on the road. Hundreds of pounds sitting in his back pocket, waiting for him to spend.
"Why is it that some people have so much, and others so little?" I blurted quietly.
His face was emotionless.
"Faith. If you don't have faith, you have nothing." He replied.
"But what about hope? What about when people always say, 'Without hope, you will go nowhere'? Surely if you do not have a desire for something to happen, it will not." I countered
"Hope is just wanting something to happen. Hope is the expectation of a particular thing to occur. Wanting is greed, and greed will get you nowhere. Faith is complete confidence that something with happen. Faith is trust. Trusting something, or someone. There is nothing better than when someone tells you they trust you."
"I reject that."
"Oh yeah? Then what's better than someone telling you they trust you?" Finn questioned.
"Someone telling you they love you."
Silence. Again.
"Has anyone ever told you they love you?" I asked.
"My family have."
"You know I don't mean that."
"No."
"Neither."
The rest of the car journey was pretty much filled with the smooth purr of the rover. The surrounding buildings soon grew, till they became the grand skyscrapers of Central London, before sizing down a bit more, and landing at fusion.
"I really don't live close to you," I said.
"Doesn't matter, I'll follow you anywhere," He smiled.
I rolled my eyes, and picked up my rucksack from the footwell. "I'll let you know about tonight," he said. "Do you want me to pick you up after work?"
I remembered the note. "No, I'll be fine," I said, reaching for the handle of the door and opening it.
But before I could step out Finn had streched to grasp the handle and pull it back, slamming it closed and consequently pulling me back with it, so the back of my head was inches from face.
"Are you sure?" He whispered, his fingers creeping closer to mine.
I couldn't stop myself. I spun round in the chair and grabbed hold of his face, crashing my lips onto his. Finn held my waist with his hands, even though the console was in the way. I could feel his chest vibrating as we kissed.
I broke away from the kiss, opening the door and dragging my bag with me. "Yes, I'm sure," I said, before smiling back at him and closing the door. The familiar ring of the bell welcomed me to the shop, and I heard Finn's car drive away as the the door shut.
"Sorry I'm late, I-" I started.
Dan turned around, interrupting me. "Don't worry, I know, your scary boyfriend rung."
"Scary?" I laughed, grabbing a apron from the draw.
"He's intimidating."
"Hardly."
I noticed a small bruise on his forehead, above his right eye. "What happened to your head?" I asked.
"Fell over, hit my head first, hurt like hell." He said.
Wasn't that the typical 'I got into a fight' excuse?. I shrugged the matter off, and reached for the till, swiping my ID and signing myself in.
"Why did you move here from LA? Why would you want to move here, of all places?" I turned round to look at him, placing my hands on the counter and leaning back on them.
"What's wrong with this place?"
"Don't answer a question with a question," I sung, wondering how many times I had retaliated with that excuse.
"I needed change. America wasn't working out for me, so I moved here." He said.
I furrowed my eyebrows, didn't sound like a very convincing reason to me.
My phone buzzed in my back pocket. I took it out, and unlocked it.
To: Fray
From: Finn
Tonight's on, dress smart casual, I'll pick you at 7.30. Xxx
Smart casual? How the fuck was I supposed to do that? I couldn't team a dress with my converse, if that's what he meant. You'll think of something.
To: Finn
From: Fray
Are those kisses I see? See you then. Xoxo
There was soon a reply.
To: Fray
From: Finn
No, I just butt dialled.
Xxx
Again.
I chuckled.

Soon enough 4 came, and after a hectic, more like wait around using whatever you can find to keep yourself awake, day at work, I reached for my bag which I had kept behind the counter.
"Babe, how was your date?" Anya, who I hadn't noticed walk in, asked, smiling.
"What date?" I said, raising my eyebrows.
"You know, with that handsome gentleman you were chatting up yesterday," she sniggered.
"Oh, he's handsome, is that why you were staring at him, and for your information, I was not 'chatting him up', we were just... talking," I said.
"Awwwww, is boo is luuurrrvve?" She teased.
I rolled my eyes at her childish behaivour. "At least I don't have a relationship that revolves around sex," I said, strutting around the counter.
She gasped.
The short walk home made me slightly nervous, what can I say? I think walking home alone after receiving possible death threats makes normal people nervous, but I was back home I knew it, and as I closed my door, I let out a breath of air I didn't know I was holding.
I slouched around for a while, before deciding I should probably get ready. I had a quick shower, leaving my hair. I laid some black jeans, a white blouse and a black blazer out on my bed. I left my hair natural, but sprayed some salt spray to add a bit more texture, and pulled my outfit on, finalising with some simple black boot heels. I kept my makeup simple, but swiped some cherry lipstick onto my lips. The doorbell went just in time.
My, probably tired, black clutch sat in my hand, and looking through the peep hole, I saw Finn there. He wore a plain navy dress shirt, chinos and brogues.
"I know your looking, Fray," he said. I smiled, opening the door. I raised me eyebrows, and gestured to my outfit. "Perfect," he whispered, pulling me towards him.
I placed my finger on his lips, pushing his face away. "Na uh uh, I just put lipstick on," I said, before walking to the lift and hitting the button.
In a moment Finn had me pressed against him, up against the wall.
"Not funny, Fray," he said.
"What are you talking about?" I was holding back the smile.
Finn grinned mischievously, before placing his hands either side of my head and smashing his lips onto mine. I kissed him back, my hands finding their usual place to the back of his neck. He pulled away first, grabbing hand and leading me to the open lift.
"C'mon, or we'll be late," he said.
I laughed at him. "What?" He asked.
"You've got some lipstick on your face," I said.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "I did warn you."
The car journey to the restaurant wasn't to long, and shortly Finn had pulled up outside a Thai restaurant.
"Like Thai?" He asked.
"Yeah, it's good," I replied, as we entered the restaurant.
"I'm just gonna go to the toilet, see you at the table," he said, squeezing my hand and walking away.
There was a short queue for the till, and I got in line, scanning the tables for familiar faces. I spotted them, laughing. He whispered something into her ear, she smiled. He wrapped his arm around her neck and she leaned into the touch, giggling, and turning her head towards him. He smiled at her, and kissed her forehead.
That was love.
Suddenly somebody grabbed my hand, and pulled me out the queue. It was Finn.
"Finn, what are you doing, I lost my spot!" I exclaimed.
But he took no notice of me as he walked to the till, ignoring the other people lined up.
"Harries, there's already some people here," he said to the already occupied man at the till.
"Right away Sir, Scott will lead you to your table, Scott!" He said, scanning his book.
A tanned boy appeared. "Table 48 please," he was told.
Scott lead us to where I saw Jack and Ella earlier.
"Thank you," I said, before he walked away. "You can't just skip the queue like that," I turned to Finn.
"Well I did."
"Just cause you're rich doesn't mean you can do anything," I said, sitting down in the chair he had pulled out for me.
"Don't worry, Jack does it too," Ella said, smiling at me.
"Hey, Fray, I'm Jack, this is my dishonest girlfriend Ella, nice to meet you," he held out his hand for me to shake.
"Um, excuse me, what happened to 'I will love you whatever happens' a minute ago?" Ella said.
"The minute ended," Jack licked his lips, taking a sip of his drink.
"Fray, this is my idiotic self-centred brother Jack, and his travelling mad cat lady girlfriend Ella," Finn rolled his eyes.
"You forgot beautiful," Jack said.
"And snoring, for him," Ella added.
Jack looked at her, biting his lip, as she grinned cheekily, looking back down at her menu. His hand was still around her shoulders. A smile found its way to his lips, and he stole a kiss on her cheek.
"Sorry to make you feel awkward Fray, they're very affectionate," Finn said sarcastically.
"From what I've heard, so are you." Jack said.
"What do you mean, from what you've heard?" I asked.
"Oh you know, Zayn and Harry watching you kiss and all that," he sniggered.
"Assholes," Finn muttered.
Jack chuckled. "What?"
"I don't like to swear in front of Fray," Finn said.
I snorted, "Since when?"
"Since I decided I needed to up my game if I wanted you to fall in love with me," he said.
"What's that meant to mean?"
"What do you think it means?"
Ella butted in. "I think it means you're growing a second penis."
Jack laughed out loud and Finn rolled his eyes, looking back down at his menu.
"What?" Ella asked. "I was just speaking my mind."
"And that's why I love you," Jack said, kissing his forehead, again.
"Urgh, please stop," Finn moaned.
"You have a girlfriend now, you can kiss her instead of sitting there moping about," Jack said.
"I don't think Fray's comfortable with all these people around us to show public affection." Finn said.
"Why don't you ask her yourself." Jack smirked.
They both looked at me.
"I'm not saying anything," I said.
Jack sighed and Finn smiled.
"Wait," Finn said. "I say I need to up my game and the first thing that comes to your mind is that I'm growing another penis?"
"I was hoping you weren't gonna say that," Ella said.
Another conversation started, and our friendly banter started to come in a regular pattern.
Jack then looked up at Finn. "So, have you told her about Jimmy's party?"
