I raised my eyebrows.
"Finn, I'm scared," I said.
A look of concern flashed through his eyes, but I could see a smile playing on his lips.
"Why?" He asked.
"There's a thuggish ugly scary looking hobo standing in front of me," I said.
"Are you sure he's ugly?"
"Finn," I had a straight face.
"Why don't you ask him what he would like to drink?"
"Okay," I said, before putting my phone down on the counter, not loosing eye contact with him as he walked to the till.
"Hello, sorry for the wait, what would you like?"
"What's your favourite drink?" Finn smiled.
"Excuse me?"
"Answer the question,"
I crossed my arms at him.
"Chai tea latte," I answered.
"Well in that case, I'll have one cappuccino and one chai tea latte," he said.
I punched the numbers into the till.
"Coming right up, that's £4.95 please," I said, before walking round to the coffee machine.
"To go?" I called.
"Yep."
I grabbed two cups from the stack and placed them under the funnels, pushing the appropriate buttons and waited for them to fill. The staff door then swung open, revealing a tired looking Anya.
"What happened to you?" I asked, my eyes widening at her state. Her blonde hair was sticking up in all places, skin bare of makeup, blue eyes vibrant, tshirt hanging off one sleeve, backs of her conserve pushed down beneath the soles of her feet. But, evidently, she looked flawless.
"I...I.... Last night... Ben..." She was panting.
"Did you run here?" I said, taking in her breathless self.
"Yes... I..."
"You overslept? It's 4 o'clock, Anya. Have you had anything to eat?" I said, turning around and collecting the cups.
"Ben and I went out last night," Ben is Anya's boyfriend. "We stayed up late, one thing led to another and, let's just say I had a pretty amazing night last night," she explained, after regaining her breath.
I placed the lids on the hot cups and put them into a cup holder. "Don't you always."
Anya chuckled, and hung her parka on the hook.
"What's the point in bringing a coat if you're not going to wear it?" I asked.
"I just, I thought it would be cold later, so..." She said, adjusted her shoes so that her feet were actually properly inside.
She looked up smiling, and I rolled my eyes at her, but a grin formed its way into my lips.
She looked behind me, and stopped in her tracks, features still across her face. She looked quite stupid, balancing on one leg, reaching behind her to tug on her shoe, in a frozen position. I followed my eyes to her gaze, only to find her staring at Finn. Please don't judge like Annie, I prayed in my head.
I walked over to the till.
"Here's your coffee," I said, exchanging the cups for change, it was exact.
"And can you tell, ummmm, Fray, I think she works here, that's Finn's waiting outside, she'll understand," he said.
"Sure," I placed the coins into the the slots in the till, biting my lip to prevent a wide grin spread on my face.
"Gracias," he winked at me before walking out, converse padding on the floor. I don't think anyone had heard us, zero heads had turned, no gasps, frightened humans sprinting out because Finn Harries was in the building.
I walked round the counter to pick up my phone, still on the call with Finn. 9 minutes. I brought it to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Fray, was that hobo okay in the end?" He chuckled.
"No, he asked me for sex,"
"What did you say?"
"I happily gave it to him, I've been kind of lonely recently," I sad, close to breaking out into fits of laughter.
"That's not funny," he said.
"Yes it is, I can see your face,"
Finn turned around to look at me through the glass window. His black eye was fading, but it was still visible, and he had bags under his eyes, but apart from that, he looked healthy.
I heard the staff door open again. It was Dan.
"I'll be one minute," I said, before hanging up on him.
I saw him look down at his phone and turn around to narrow his eyes at me, before moving his eyes to look at something else.
"Okay, my shift's over, see you guys tomorrow," I said, walking over to the coat hooks, after neatly folding my apron up and putting it under the till.
"See you, Fray," Dan said, smiling up at me.
"Were you okay earlier? You looked a little, befuddled at the cashier." I asked, shrugging on my coat, after
"It's fine, I figured it out, besides, I've got Anya now!" He said, wrapping his arms around her from behind.
She squirmed in his embrace. "Urgh! Kill me now!" She said, finally breaking free from his grasp and walking through the door to the kitchen. She seemed to have forgotten the awkward moment when she was staring at Finn earlier, I still didn't know whether it was because he was Finn Harries, or because he was God damn gorgeous.
"She loves me really," he sniggered.
I laughed at their love hate relationship, before walking to the door and grabbing my phone from the counter. My bag hung from my shoulder, bouncing against my hips.
I pushed open the door, and turned to look at Finn.
"Hey, beautiful,"
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"Thank God, I thought you'd gone for round 2 which that hobo," he said.
"I would never ditch you for a hobo, Finn," I smiled.
"Liar," he said, leaving the cups on one of the outside tables and walking towards me. "Good girls don't lie." He hands grasped my hips, pulling me closer and closing the distance between us. I smiled into the kiss, my hands wrapping around his neck. His soft lips gently moved against mine, making me completely forget about the other side of him, the other side I had yet to find out.
He broke away from the kiss, eyes closed, trademark cheeky grin on his lips.
"I could get used to this," he said.
"Me too,"
"C'mon," he said, taking my hand and picking up the cups.
"Who was that guy, in the shop?" He asked.
"New guy, Dan, he's from LA, he's quite nice,"
"Why would anyone want to move from LA to here?" Finn said.
"I thought that to, but everyone has secrets, right?"
"Yeah, I guess, he just looked a little, familiar. Do you have any secrets?"
my heart drooped. "Like I said," I replied, quietly. "Everyone has secrets."
He led me to his car, parked round the corner on a side street.
"Why do you never park on main roads?" I asked, curiously.
"Because, if someone sees my car, someone who doesn't like me, I dunno, I just, this is my baby, I don't want anyone to hurt my baby you know?" He said, gesturing at the car and opening the door for me.
I waited till he'd walked round and climbed in himself before saying,
"No I don't know, I've never understood men and their ongoing obsessions with cars," I stated.
Finn laughed, threw the cardboard cup holder behind and placed the cups in the car holders. I immediately picked up the latte and sipped it, it was still quite hot.
"Thanks for the coffee by the way," I said.
"No problem. I had this really nice waitress,"
"Oh yeah?"
"She was super pretty,"
I snorted. "Yeah, right,"
Finn looked over at me.
"What?" I said.
"You don't think you're pretty?" He asked.
I looked away, taking another sip of my latte.
"Fray, look at me," he said. I turned my face to look him in the eye. "You're the most beautiful girl I've ever laid my eyes upon, Fray, don't let anyone tell you better, okay?" He said, stroking my cheeks with his hand.
I smiled, and nodded.
"Alright, let's go," he said, starting the car and driving forwards. He checked if their were any cars coming, before taking a right.
"Finn, what are you doing?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?" He said, confused.
"My apartment is left, you're going in the complete wrong direction." I said.
"But there is only one direction," he said, smirking.
"Urgh, shut up," I said, slipping my feet out of my pumps and placing them on the car seat, wrapping my arms around my knees.
"Seriously, Finn!"
"Well maybe we're not going to yours," he said.
"Well if we're not going to mine then where are we going?" I challenged.
"To mine, of course."Hey guys! Stupid Fray, there is only one direction, duh.
