Jake came down the stairs into the kitchen and I placed a plate of bacon and eggs in front of him when he sat down. He immediately started scarfing down the food and I watched him with pure fascination. Jake's brown hair that fell just above his hazel eyes bobbed up and down as he ate. A thought crossed my mind and it clicked that he's completely hot - as weird as that is to say about your brother - but sometimes you just gotta look at people from another point of view. I managed to do that with him pretty easily. Other people? Not so much. It was a new record that he finished his breakfast in exactly 5 minutes. I raised a questioning eyebrow at him and he stopped chewing the mouthful of food.
"What?" he asked although the words were muffled by the food I rolled my eyes at his bad manners.
"You just wolfed down a heap of food in literally five minutes flat..." I laughed and he smiled at me, showing his chewed food I slapped a hand over my mouth as I burst out laughing. I lived it when he joked around like that. Acting like a small child. It's been really long since he's had a really good time. Finally I called down and slapped his head.
"You are disgusting! Come one, we need to go or we're gonna be late." I said as I got up from the table and put our plates into the dishwasher. I left a plate of food on the counter for Jason for when he comes down for breakfast. Don't want him to give another reason to hate me. One of them being that I looked a lot like my mom. Stop! Don't think about her... My mind screamed and I immediately thought of something else.
"You look pretty today." he said and I felt the blush creeping up my cheeks.
"Thanks. Are you happy now?" I laughed and shook my head I was wearing my black skinny jeans with a white tank top and a black shirt over it. To finish it off I added some metal bangles and my pink platforms. For my face I just added some lip gloss and eye-liner my eyes are grayish blue and depending on my mood it can either shift from mixed to pure gray or blue. My hair makes it stand out even more because it's long and dark brown; almost black. Jake laughed while he gathered his bag. He was damn lucky I added color instead of my usual black and metal combo.
"Yea, I am. It's good to see you wear the clothing with color that I buy but you never wear. Now come on because we're seriously gonna be late for school." we left the house without too much noise and got into my black mustang with a happy mood. Within 15 minutes we pulled into the school parking lot. Students were milling about and I spotted my best friend, Leah, standing on the steps. Leah and I have been friends since kindergarten and nothing has separated us. We've always been with each other through every single moment of our lives whether it was good or bad. If I do say so myself we were made for each other because we don't consider ourselves best friends; we prefer to be called sisters which couldn't be more weirder because we look so much alike. The only difference being our eyes because hers is just plain sapphire blue whilst mine is sapphire and gray. Yes, there are some facial differences but people still call us twins. We also both have short but fit bodies.
Excitement flushed through me and I got a little impatient because I felt lonely without having her by my side. Don't get me wrong; I love having Jake next to me all the time but the feeling is different when I'm with Leah. We talk about everything female which Jake tries very hard to avoid at any opportunity. I found a spot, parked and jumped out. Jake laughed at me for how fast I jumped out of the car. I was about to swear at him when Leah spotted us.
"Avita!" she shouted and ran as fast as she could on those heels she was wearing towards the car. Jake jumped out of he way as she threw herself at me.
"Leah!" I screamed and wrapped my arms around her. "How are you? I missed you so much!"
And on we went. Talking while we walked to our locker I grabbed Jake'a hand and threaded my fingers through his like I always do when I walked with him. It makes me feel a little more confident. All three of us talked about what happened on the weekend and we brought up how Jason beat me up when Jake ran late one evening.
"Oh my gosh, Avie! That's so wrong. That's it! I have had it with him... You are going to move into my place as soon as possible. I can't take this stress knowing that you get beaten if Jake isn't around." Leah said as we took out books out from the locker.
"Really? Wouldn't your mom go, like, insane if I moved into your house? Yes, I know that I said that I would love to live in that paradise of a house of yours and it's true but-" she cut me off.
"Huh-uh! Don't go over thinking this plan my mom already thinks of you as a daughter and she wouldn't mind because I already asked of something like this happened and I wanted you to move in with us and she said that it was absolutely perfect if you moved in and she's really a fond of Mr Muscle over here." I smiled as she flicked her fingers at Jake who was staring with his jaw dropped. He had no idea that Leah's mother called him that behind his back. Well, I guess he does now.
"Jake, close your mouth or you'll catch flies." I said as I finished closing my bag and slung it over my shoulder. He snapped out of it and smiled a sheepish but cocky smile. Leah and I laughed at him while his cheeks reddened. Grabbing his hand again and pulling him in the direction of the first period all have together I said, "Okay, Jake and I will move in but," I stopped Leah before she squealed, "we get to pick out rooms that we want." I releasing my hand from her mouth and she took a deep breath before she started talking in an excited voice.
"Yes, of course! Oh my gosh, my sister is finally moving in!" she squealed and hugged Jake and I.
"Yes, now come on! We have english first so we can plan everything in there. Let's go!"

While I sat in class planning win Leah and Jake, as excited as I was Jake's words kept repeating in my head and I thought back to how I acted before my mother died. My father never told me how she died but said I should have remembered because I was there but I couldn't. The only thing I could resemble to what might have happened is the nightmare that I've had since I was a child. That couldn't have anything to do with it could it? I mean there were bears in the dreams but they soured like wolves. I shook my head mentally. No, they were bears... At least I hope it was.
Leah snapped me out of my haze with a shocking question, "Hey, Avie, is one of Jake's friends checking you out?"
