Chapter Twenty-six - Answers

        You hung on to Matthieu tightly as he ran with you deeper and deeper into the forest. You didn't dare utter a word to him having figured speaking would only get you into further trouble with the male alcetaur. Matthieu was silent as well, focusing on taking the two of you to the heart of the forest. Once there, he set you down but kept a firm hold of your upper arm so you couldn't run from him. You attempted to pull your arm away from him, but your attempts were futile. His eyes bore holes in you as he stared at you with a harsh glare. You looked away from him not being able to make eye contact for a short time. You eventually gained your bearings and looked at him with an intense gaze. Matt's expression stayed the same as your eyes locked in a heated staring match. Who would break the silence first?

        "What the fuck has gotten into all of you lately?" It looks like it was you.

        "Nothing..."

        "That's bullshit and you know it! I want answers Matthieu!"

        "You want to know the fucking truth?!"

        "Yes!"

        "We're scared, okay?!"

        A silence wedged itself between the two of you. You took in what he said. Those two words "we're scared" sent off bells in your head. What were they scared about? Had Andrés actually told them about them killing her if she married one of them? She hoped that wasn't the case. The silence was then broken with soft voice now, the yelling part out of the way.

        "Scared? Scared of what?" you asked.

        Matthieu's grip on your arm loosened. "We're scared to lose you to each other or some human that you find to be better than us..."

        "Is that it? Is that why you've all been trying to keep me at home and from each other all the time?"

        He looked down with a bit of an ashamed expression. "Yes... I... We just want what's best for you later in life. Our bickering is usually about who would be best for you to marry, but we can never agree because we all want to marry you. You give such mixed signals that we don't know who you like most... It's frustrating..."

        Your eyes widened before softening to a look of fondness. "Oh Mattie... I'm sorry that you guys feel that way. That wasn't my intention when I started dating you all. At first I had to treat you all equally in terms of my affection. Now I have to act upon my feelings and instincts."

       "And what are you feelings and instincts telling you right now?"

       "As for my feelings, I can't say what they are right now, but I know that I love one of you dearly. My instincts, however, are telling me to run. I don't have freedom with you guys anymore. You're all too possessive over me. I couldn't even go see Kimihito today without you guys showing up and busting up the place."

        "You didn't tell us where you were going... Of course we freaked out and came to get you after checking everywhere we knew you liked to be."

        "You wouldn't have let me leave the house otherwise! Sneaking out was my only option at this point!" There were tears in your eyes as you fell to your knees, Matthieu having to let go of your arm so he wouldn't pull it out of its socket. "I love you all so much... It's hard to divide my time evenly between you all and everything else in my life... It's nearly impossible... I'm so sorry that I've been giving you all mixed signals, and I'm sorry for sneaking out like I had this morning to see Kimihito, but I needed to talk to someone who would understand how I felt and went through something similar... I'm so sorry..."

        All of your stress had finally caught up to you as you began crying in the middle of the forest. Your tears were hot as they cascaded down your face at a steady pace. Your hands were shaky as you slowly brought them up to cover your face, not wanting Matthieu to see you crying like this. The male alcetaur's eyebrows furrowed as he laid down on the ground in front of you to be on the same height level. He gently took a hold of your wrists with his hands and lowered them from you face before placing his forehead against yours. You could only continue to cry and let your emotions run rampant through your mind. Matthieu said nothing as he let you cry. He heard that this was something healthy that the human species did every once in a while. He wasn't going to stop you if it was going to help you somehow.

        After about ten minutes of nonstop crying, your crying became nonexistent. You were leaning against Matthieu's chest now, your head in the crook of his neck. He had his arms wrapped around your waist as your hands rested against his chest. You muttered an apology to him for him having to see you cry. He said that it was fine and didn't mind, but he did tell you that he hated to see you so upset like you were. You let out a short, shaky laugh at his response, finding it cliché of him to say yet still sweet. You were tired now from crying so hard, but you had no desire to walk home, let alone back to Kimihito's house to get the rest of your boys or motorcycle. So, Matthieu being the nice moose-boy he is helped you onto his back before getting up. You wrapped your arms around his torso to help yourself stay on his back as he trotted out of the forest, picking up Luciano along the way back to Kimihito's house. Upon entering your friend's home, you noticed how much damage your boys and his girls actually did. You spotted Kimihito off in the corner of the room and gave him a small wave.

        "I'll stop by with a check for you to use to pay for the damages tomorrow Kimi. I'm really sorry that the boys trashed your house."

        "It's not like the girls haven't done it before," he sweatdropped. "Thank you though for helping me out with the cost to fix it all."

        "No problem. Now, if you'll excuse us, I'm going to take the boys back home."

        "Alright. Safe travels (y/n)."

        "Thanks Kimi."

        "You're welcome."

        You waved the girls and Kimihito goodbye before Matthieu helped you round up the rest of the boys before you started your long journey in silence back to your mansion.
