Isabelle
The first thing I felt was pain down my midsection. Pictures of flames and a glimpse of Aspen's face flashed in my mind.
Oh. That's right. Our house burned down. Aspen saved us and took us to the-
"Aw damn."
Red carpets, a big room, soft blankets, complete medicals?
"I'm not in an infirmary, am I?" I swallowed.
I looked around. This place seemed familiar and unfamiliar. It looked so regal like it was...that it almost looked like...
"The palace."
I'm in the palace. This is no normal infirmary. I'm in the royal infirmary. If I could recall what happened last night (unfortunately I can because unfortunately, I didn't suffer memory loss, which is my wish and unfortunately, it didn't come true) Aspen brought me and my family in a large cart.
That means...my parents must be here too, in the palace. We're all in the palace!
"Great. What a convenient place to die." I said as thought about my parents who will be finding about my trouble-causing circumstances, which I dragged them into even if they told me so, soon enough
I stood up, feeling my headache. How severe were my injuries anyway?
I checked my midsection and there were bandages around it. Wait. That's right. A shattered glass almost pierced my stomach.
I groaned, standing up. I have to get out of here and find my parents, prepared to face them or not.
I slowly made my way towards the door, my hand on my stomach. I reached the doorknob, but someone stopped me.
"Miss Isabelle, you have to rest. You still can't get up yet."
I looked down then back at the nurse in a satirical way, trying point out my standing form, "I can. I just did."
The, I think 40 years older than me, nurse looked at me in concern, "What I mean, miss, is that you've been out for 3 days. Your injuries are no joke and-"
"3 days?"
She took a step back, "You didn't know, miss?"
I deadpanned , "I was asleep."
She laughed lightly, "O-oh. Yes, of course."
Three days. I've been out for three days! What has happened since then? I can't believe I missed so much.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts,"Nurse, if you don't mind, I would like to see my parents." I said, my hand already on the doorknob.
She forcefully placed a hand on the door, "But miss Isabelle, king Aspen asked me to take care of you." Her voice alarmed.
"Aspen?"
3 days? Aspen must also be worried sick. He saved us. For sure, he's injured too.
"I'm Rosita. I was just assigned to you about half an hour ago." She smiled, "I was your first nurse."
"First nurse?" I've been out for three days. She was just assigned to me moments before. Then, those 3 days before, no nurse took care of me?
"I know what you're thinking, miss." She chuckled, "And it's not it. Someone took care of you."
"Another nurse then?" I asked, my hand slipping slowly from the knobs.
"No. It was his majesty who took care of you." She smiled.
