The door is solid, but to the left and a little way up, a window is open. What better way to make a grand entrance?
You decide to clamber your way up there and try to heave yourself inside. First, you throw in your bag. It lands with a quiet "oomph" - there must be something soft under the window. Then, you attempt the trip yourself.
Do an Agility test, rolling 1 dice or getting a random number from a 1-6 draw.
1 to 4: your foot catches on to the window ledge just as you were about to pull your legs in, and you fall unceremoniously down, crashing into a pile of cushions and setting off a chain reaction - a pile of pots and pans shakes, in precarious balance, and finally comes crashing down. Luckily, it does so away from you and you breathe in relief, but it did cause a noise like a thousand devils howling.
5 or 6: your agility leaves nothing to be desired. Quiet as a fox, you make your way up to the window, sit on the ledge, bring your legs inside and drop. You land on the balls of your feet, ready for anything.
Now that you're inside, you can really take stock of everything.
Most of the boutique has been smashed, and there are even traces of burning. If you are a Shaman, you can roll a dice or do a random draw of 1-6 for Intelligence. If you get 3 or more, go to Appendix 9.
You start to rummage through the debris, kicking broken boards and glass out of your way, when you suddenly hear a whimper. You stop and go perfectly still, trying to pinpoint the origin of the sound. When it comes again, you focus on it: it comes from a door you hadn't noticed before, half-hidden and stuck closed by the bookshelf that has fallen on it. You pick your way to it and manage to push the empty bookshelf away. Carefully, slowly, you open the door.
If you took the Road North and no blood was shed, go to Chapter Sixteen.
If you took the Road North and killed the person you met, go to Chapter Seventeen.
If you took the Road South, go to Chapter Eighteen.
