Chapter Thirty-Eight

You've got to get out of here, and for that you're going to need the keys. You saw that the guard had them. You need to get that man in here.

In the blink of an eye you've siezed the waste bucket and hurled it against the metal bars of the door; the clank is massive and you add to it your yowling and howling.

"Come here! I need you," you bellow at the top of your lungs, before picking up the waste bucket again, ignoring the filth that escaped it when you first threw it. The smell is bad, but you'll live. You smash it against the bars once more, then move on to your cot. Overturning it, you begin to kick the legs loose, still screaming and shouting, until hurried footsteps can be heard.

"What in the name of -" the guard stands in front of your cell, bemused. You just keep doing what you're doing, methodically and noisily destroying every little bit of what you were given. Eventually the guard fumbles for the keys and steps into the cell, and you lunge for him.

Do a Speed test, rolling one dice or getting a random number from a 1-6 draw, for a result of 3 or more.

If you manage, fighting the guard will be quick and silent, and his buddies in the other room  will stay there. Go to the Combat pararaph.

If you fail, you are too loud. Once you have fought this guard, two more will show up with the same profile - fight them too, one at a time, for a total of three combats. Go to the Combat paragraph.

Combat

Life points: 3
Weapon: baton. Counts as a short, light weapon. (Remember that you are unarmed.)

Dice rolls: throw two dice - get a random number from a 1-12 draw.
1 to 4 : you fail your attack and the guard strikes back. Lose 1 life point.
5 to 7 : the guard blocks your attack.
8 to 12 : your attack carries. The guard loses 1 life point.
Repeat until one of you is dead. Then, if you survived and failed the Speed test, repeat the whole combat twice more as his two friends have shown up.

If you survived this fight, (and if his buddies didn't attack / you killed his buddies as well), you may take the guard's baton and his armor, which will grant you +2 life points. You may go to Chapter Twenty-Two.

If you did not, go to the very last part.
