You open the door - and bump into two guards.
Once the initial shock is past, the three of you stare at each other for a minute - until the guards realize you're the person they saw get locked up a few hours ago.
Combat
GUARD 1 (human)
Life points: 3
Weapon: staff - long weapon.
Dice rolls: throw two dice - get a random number from a 1-12 draw.
1 to 4 : you fail your attack and the man strikes back. Lose 1 life point.
5 to 7 : the man blocks your attack.
8 to 12 : your attack carries. The man loses 1 life point.
Repeat until one of you is dead.
If you survive this fight, go on to the second guard.
If you did not, go to the very last part.
GUARD 2 (spirit)
Life points: 3
Weapon: unarmed.
Dice rolls: throw two dice - get a random number from a 1-12 draw.
1 to 4 : you fail your attack and the man strikes back. Lose 1 life point.
5 to 7 : the man blocks your attack.
8 to 12 : your attack carries. The man loses 1 life point.
Repeat until one of you is dead.
If you survive this fight, move on to the next paragraph.
If you did not, go to the very last part.
It's time to actually go through the door that had been across from you at the beginning.
Beyond it is a long, narrow corridor lit by torches and windows alternating on the walls. Through the windows, you can see green hills and forests, all with an unnatural sheen under the sunlight - you are definitely in the spirit world. And if the sheen didn't suffice, maybe the massive creature moving in the distance, with its six legs and deer body, can convince you.
You can see that the corridor eventually opens onto a small room in the distance. However, halfway to that room, there is an opening going to the left. As you near it, you notice that it is another corridor much like this one, going off into the distance until it seems to turn sharply to the right.
To keep going straight, go to Chapter Forty-One.
To take a left, go to Chapter Forty-Two.
If you haven't opened the door that was to your left, you can do so now by going to Chapter Thirty-Nine.
