LUKE

The whole weekend was filled with a bunch of sugar and salt. Cameron slept over the whole weekend and I swear we gained about ten pounds each with all the sugar and salt we devoured. It was a shame that he had to go home Sunday night.

When I got up this morning, I texted him to ask if he needed a ride to school. When there was no reply right away, I got up and headed to the bathroom to shower. When I was done I checked my phone and still no reply from Cameron. Weird. He always texts back right away. Deciding not to make a big deal out of it I headed downstairs to the kitchen to make myself some breakfast. Grabbing a bowl, cereal and milk, I made the Luke Garrick special. Cause I can't cook to save my life, and my mom decided that I was old enough to make my own breakfast. When I'm almost finished with my cereal, my mom walks in a little surprised that I'm still here.

"Hey Luke, what are you doing here?" She says a bit fidgety like she's trying to hide something.

"I live here?" I say with a mouth full of Cocoa Puffs.

"I mean, what are you still doing here? You should be heading to school now. You'll be late." Narrowing my eyes at her I wait a moment before I finally answer.

"I was just finishing up and then I'm heading out." I say as I'm getting up to put the bowl in the sink. I turn to see her standing rocking back and forth on her heels, and I know she is hiding something. The last time she was like this was when she was trying to distract my dad from going to the garage so he doesn't spoil his birthday present.

"What's going on mom?" She looks towards me raising her eyebrows a bit.

"Nothing just.... You should really be getting to school, you don't want to be late." She says practically shoving me out the door. "I love you, have a nice day!"

Okay, that wasn't weird at all. I decide not to question it and head to the car and start my way to school, Green Day on the radio. Nothing like Green Day playing in the morning when you are on your way to your own personal hell. Right?! Of course I'm right. I'm turning into the school parking lot just as Hitchin' A Ride comes onto the radio. I had to stop right in the middle of turning due to a bunch of students blocking to actually park my car. It's a full on crowd in this parking lot. Wanting to know whats going on, I get out of the car and what everyone is looking at finally comes to view. How have I not seen this?

Desks, chairs and every piece of furniture is built up to form a wall right in front of the entrance of the school. A giant Morningside Wolves flag is perched on top of the wall. It's like a scene from that weird opera movie my mom made me watch. I could hear chattering all across the parking lot. Then the principal stands up on something with a megaphone in hand.

"Due to unfortunate events, as you can see behind me, school will be canceled for the day. And to the person or people responsible for this, we will find out who you are." Cheers erupt throughout the whole lot and everyone breaks to go back to their cars and the principal heads to the janitors that are in a group discussion and let me tell you, they look pissed.

As I'm about to get back into my car something catches my eye across the street of the school. It's Cassie, and she has the most smug look on her face. She is standing on the back of Dean's jeep with him right beside her, and Erin and Jordan standing in front of them on the ground with big grins on their faces. I don't know how long I'm looking towards them but Cassie moves her gaze towards me like she knew where I was. When she looks right in my eyes, everything just stops. My heart is beating fast and loud, I'm pretty sure she can hear it from all the way across the street. Finally remembering I'm in the middle of the road, I get in the car and drive home after texting my mom that school was cancelled.
