LUKE
"How did you find me, Luke?" She says putting on a blank face and she turns her gaze away from the photo.
"You know who I am?" She looks at me for another moment before looking back at the photo.
"He used to talk about you all the time." She says taking the book from my hands. I can see tears starting to pool around her eyes. She looks to me for a moment before stepping aside opening the door wider, allowing me to come in. "Come on in. Please, take a seat. I'll be right back. Do you want something to drink?"
"No, thank you." I say looking around the dorm apartment. It's small but I guess it's a good size for just two people. Where is Kylie? I decide to take a seat on the small couch. Eleanor comes back out from the back of the apartment, holding a small box. She sits down on the recliner that's right next to the small couch.
"He wanted to tell you, he really did. But with my parents not liking the relationship and your parents not liking the relationship. There was just a lot going on." She says as she opens the box and takes out photos and hands them to me. My parents didn't like Kyle's relationship? "We started dated the beginning of our senior year."
I take the photos from her hand and looked at them. They were of her and Kyle. It looked they were taken at our old high school by the old courtyard everyone seemed to forget about. But here they were, sitting on the old cement bench that was covered in weed. There were some of just him. He looked so happy in all of these pictures. Then I came across to one of him holding an ultrasound photo with a giant smile plastered on his face. He knew about the baby?
I just kept looking at the photo in my hand. Why didn't he tell me any of this?
"He knew you were pregnant?" I ask, my eye not leaving the photo.
"That was a couple weeks before the accident." She said. "He was so excited, he couldn't stop talking about getting out of Minneapolis and coming here to LA."
"So was he just going to leave, then?" I asked which cause her to snap her head to look at me with surprise in her eyes.
"No!" She says shaking her head. "No. He would never do that to you. It was just complicated."
"How complicated?"
"You really don't know?"
"Know what?"
"They haven't told you?"
"Who hasn't told me what?" By this time I was getting frustrated.
"You really should talk to your parents about this."
"Would you just tell me!" I practically scream. I was about to say more, but I stop myself. "Please. I already know my parents won't tell me anything. If they haven't told me about you and Kylie, then they wouldn't tell me about anything that doesn't need to involve me. So, please."
She doesn't say anything for a while, but I can see it on her face that she's contemplating on actually telling me something. Then she looks to a door to which I'm guessing Kylie is in there. Then she looks back to me, and I see it. Defeat.
"Our parents are family rivals. Have been for a very long time." She starts. I try my best to stay quiet, but that's saying a lot for my ADD. But somehow I stay quiet. She continues. "A classic Romeo and Juliet story I guess you can say. Except Juliet gets pregnant and only Romeo dies."
A sad and longing look washes over her face making me believe that she really did love Kyle. I don't say anything and wait for her to continue.
"You know, your family should really talk to you about your family history. Otherwise, it's not my secret to tell you."
