CASSIE
Julian.
My evil, sadistic, insane of a Brother.
You're probably wondering why I've never mentioned him before. Well, like Teddy, Julian is our half-brother but from our fathers side. I barely see him. And for good reason. Christian is the one that spends the most time with him. Especially since he got rid of his claims.
As for me? I'm more of a threat to Julian than anyone in this room. I have more claim to the Pellegrino Family than he does. It's sort of a love-hate sibling rivalry with him. The only time we were close was when I was Little Wolf. He loved that side of me, mainly because he can say that we were the same. And we were the same. Except for the fact that I hated that part of me. And whether I liked it or not, Julian got Little Wolf out of me easier than anyone.
"Awe, vieni su Princess, dov'è il mio abbraccio?" Julian says. He's doing this on purpose. I don't move a muscle and I don't move my gaze from him. One blink and Julian will get out of line. I never knew what mood he was in right now. But when I'm around it's usually guarded and alert. I can't afford for Little Wolf to appear right now, especially if Luke is so close by.
"What are you doing here Julian?" I ask almost too quietly. That same evil smirk makes its way to the surface. Julian looks more like our father than the rest of us. So that smirk is almost the same as dad's but there's more of an evil feature in it than smoldering. Not like daddy's or even Christians.
"Julian!" I tense when I hear that little squeaky call coming from Bryan. He barely gets to see Julian, but he loves him all the same.
"Hey, Little Brother! Have you gotten taller?" Julian says as he crouches down next to Bryan. I feel like a protective mother and all I want to do is take Bryan far away from this sadistic human being we call Brother. I could see Luke furrow his eyebrows in confusion. He caught the 'Little Brother' part. When he turns to look at me, I can see the question in his eyes.
"Yes, yes I did." Bryan says in that weird way you hear from Phineas and Ferb.
"I can see that! Next thing you know, you'll be going on family errands with me soon enough." That got my blood boiling.
"No, he won't." I say in the low tone I haven't done in a couple of years.
"Princess." I could hear my Father's warning in his tone but like always, whenever Little Wolf is threatening to be free, I disregard it.
"What the hell are you doing here, Julian?" I say slowly between breaths, making sure I don't lose control. Don't lose control, Cassie. Breathe. Then I feel a presence in the back of me. And a hand falls gently on the small of my back and I instantly feel relaxed.
Luke.
I don't why, but I feel myself leaning in towards his touch. Needing it. Craving it. And that too, instantly scares the shit out of me. Never have I felt this way about anyone. Never has anyone ever made me feel this way either. I realize this now that I can't live without his touch? Without him? You've got to be kidding me.
"Is that really the welcome I get? From you, Princess? Tsk Tsk." He says in a sickly calm voice. He could've been a model in a different life. Even with the faint scar going down right in the middle of his right eye, making his ice cold eyes looking scarier than normal. His hollow cheeks, making him look like the grim reaper. Him and Teddy are the same age, but somehow he looks older.
"We're only here for the family holidays." Daddy interrupts before I can even say anything. "And since our family is here."
He lets that last statement hang in the atmosphere.
"We mean no harm, Princess." Julian says in a sickly sweet voice. A voice that instant make my blood ice cold. I don't trust him. After a moment, he goes to sit down next to Christian. Thank God, he doesn't choose the seat next to mine but now he's directly right across from me. Emma goes and get plates and silverware for the three crashers. I still hadn't moved from my spot. And I still haven't regarded my Godfather who hasn't said a word since they got here.
My father and brother are here.
Rodrick Pellegrino and Julian Pellegrino are here. Where I never wanted them to be. My two worlds that I so desperately try to keep apart has collided. And all I want to do is wait for the crash that is inevitable.
"Cassie?" Shivers go down my spine as the boy who captivated me without my knowing gently places his big hand into my small one at my side.
And I relax.
And I hold tight.
