Chapter 44 Katelyn Pov

   She looked scared that I had two heads. Then I brushed the hair out of the way of my left eye. She gasped and screamed. She ran away screaming and I stood up.
   "Wow...I didn't know I was that scary", I said to my second head. I walked down the hall. My white tail with a pink tip swished and flicked behind me as I walked. Then Umbridge and Professor McGonagall came down the stairs. My second head had made the wires wrap around it on my back.
   "Her", Umbridge said pointing to me, "it was her."
   "What was me", I asked.
   "You said that you were my worst nightmare", Umbridge said.
   "That wasn't me", I said calmly.
   "Yes it was"
   "No it wasn't...but I know who it was"
   "Who?"
   "Me", my second head popped into view.
"WHAT?!?!?!?!?! WHY DO YOU HAVE TWO HEADS", Umbridge screeched.
"I am your worst nightmare for a reason", my second head said.
"Hush...I've got this", I said. Then I turned to Umbridge.
"Because two heads are better than one", I sneered. Then I walked to the great hall for breakfast. People pointed and whispered at me because of my appearance. One boy decided to confront me.
"What are you doing here...your not a witch", he sneered.
"As a matter of fact she is", my second head said whipping around and into view, "now back off." I stuck my nose in the air and ignored anyone and everyone. I sat down in my usual seat and began to eat. Then a wire tapped my shoulder.
   "Yes", I asked through a mouthful of bacon as turned to my second head.
   "I'm hungry too you know", my second head said with a huff.
   "Open up", I said. My second head opened its mouth and I shoved bacon in the mouth. I sighed and put my head in my left head as I ate in exhaustion. People watched and stared as I ate and fed my second head. I noticed this and I noticed glowing eyes staring at me in the shadows. My tired eyes widened in fear. I immediately looked at my food and fed my second head another piece of bacon. Then the feeling of everyone staring at me started to get under my skin. I stood up abruptly and walked out of the great hall. The eyes that were watching me had followed me until I walked out of view. I ran out the grounds and made my way to the black lake. I saw Severus standing in the light coming from the open doors. He spotted me and came over.
   "What's wrong", he asked.
   "Nothing", I said with unease as I stared at the shadows seeing the glowing animatronic eyes in every shadow.
   "Come on...don't start hiding things from me", he said wrapping his arms around me from behind. I sighed in defeat.
   "Fine I shall tell you", I said, "I just could feel everyone's eyes watching me and it got under my skin and made me uncomfortable."
   "Well you were feeding a robotic head ,that was sticking out of your back with your left eye, bacon...that's not odd at all", he said.
   "Not helping", I grumbled.
   "Sorry", he said, "my point is that it isn't everyday that they see something strange like that and plus you have been missing so..." My second head whipped toward my ear and whispered to me.
   "I am not a completely different person than you", it whispered, "I am you... A different you...we are the same but I am the you that you keep locked away...at any time you can lock me back up and you take full control of both heads." I looked up at the sky and at the twinkling stars. I laid my head back on Severus's chest and my second head rested on his shoulder. He let out a baritone chuckle. Then someone cleared their throat.
   "What's going on here", it was Draco. I slipped from Severus's arms and walked up to Malfoy.
   "Nothing. Now you should walk away and forget what you saw unless you want your head bitten off", my second head said before I could say something. Draco took a step back.
   "Woah! I don't want any trouble if it is going to be that way...I was just wondering what you guys were doing standing out in the cold doing nothing and why you and Professor Snape are hugging", Draco said putting his hands up in a way of showing his surrender.
   "Hush it" I snapped at my second head before looking at Draco, "it is none of your business so back off...it isn't the first time you've seen me and Severus together...remember what happened on the stairs to Dumbledore's office?" His eyes widened.
   "K-k-KATELYN?!?!?!?! What happened", he exclaimed.
   "Something that changes people", I said darkly as I edged toward him in small slow steps after every sentence and he backed up with every step I took, "something that makes you watch all the shadows around you. Something that you can't shake. Something that you can't win. Something that will keep you from sleeping at night. Something that once it has happened you can't go back to the way you were before the fear. Something that afterwards you will never be safe or free. And no matter where you go you know that all of the ghosts are all too near. It will make you ask why won't they let you go and you can't ever move on. Everything of yours is gone afterwards. In the darkness you will still see the light of their eyes. They will haunt you like a ghost and in the the night they rise. And the shadows in your mind will creep deep into your soul. You won't be able to shake the past and it will linger on in demons control. You will be trebling while you are trapped in memories that will flash before your waking eyes. It will leave you paralyzed. You won't be able to leave them behind! You won't be able to shut the door! You won't be who you were anymore!" I trembled and Draco looked terrified. I was breathing heavily.
   "I am barely surviving in my shell and I am terrified and knowing my sister she is probably still scared after her job of being a night watch and she only stayed there five nights and it was years ago...I was front and center...I was the victim this time...I can't even stand being alone in a dark room anymore...I am so scared...and I hope that you don't have to go through that pain even if I don't like you...it is a living hell... Trust me on that", I whispered to Draco as I trembled in my spot, "I can't let it go and I can't block it from my mind...I also learned the truth to the missing children reports that happened at the old location 'hands on' meaning it happened to me... I... am... technically... dead." Draco looked at me horrified.
   "And you want to know something else", I asked.
   "What ", he asked still terrified.
   "You should take a look at my sister...in five days she went through only half of what I have gone through in about a month...she doesn't trust people... She used to but not after what happened... She used to trust just about anyone until after her five nights... She only trusts creatures...because of what she saw... Then a few days ago she had to see it happen to me... Her twin... Did you wonder where she was during dinner...last time she locked herself in her room for weeks...knowing her that is what she is doing...the reason I am not doing that is because I am scared to be in a room alone... I am more terrified than she is because she might be seeing it happen to the only person she truly trusts and loves but it is happening to me...I am going through it...I have become one of them...I have nothing of my past self left... I am not strong or stable or brave or tough or ...alive.... I am weak and unstable and a coward and scared...no...terrified...and I am breaking inside and dead inside", I said softly, trembling even worse than before. Draco stepped back a bit and looked at me in terror.
   "What happened to me also awakened the worst part of me that I had locked away many, many years ago", I said, "I...i......i......you should go." I looked around at all the shadows and watched the sets of glowing eyes. I shook my head and looked at Draco.
   "I meant it when I said you should go", I said. He turned around and left. Severus put a hand on my shoulder. I turned around and faced him. He looked down at me with a soft expression. He pulled me close and held my head to his chest. I hugged him back and hid myself in his robes.
   "I didn't know that you felt like that", he said softly, "I am right here with you and even if I don't quite understand what is happening we will get through this together."
   "Ok", I agreed softly. Then a unicorn moved in the bushes and I spun around. My heart was racing and I was breathing heavily. Severus wrapped his arms around me.
   "Shhhh...it is ok. It was just a unicorn", he whispered to me. I cried into his robes and he held me close. I finally realized that we had been out all day. Luckily it was the weekend.
After a bit I finally calmed down and walked back to the castle with Severus. We walked down to our personal quarters. I laid down in the bed and covered up. Severus got in the bed beside me and wrapped me in his arms. My tail brushed against both of our legs. I fell asleep but it was a restless one. My dreams were plagued with nightmare animatronics and murder and dead children.
