It was a silent drive. Silent except the fact that the radio was playing and Gilinsky occasionally tapped the steering wheel to the beat of the song. The quietness threatened to engulfed us; our bodies that had been fatigued by the event. Our happy, playful souls had been bereft of any last bit of energy. The once chirpy Matthew gave himself away to a death like slumber.

I rested my head on the car seat and looked out the window. The rear view window displayed a very displeasing sight.  Shawn was crying silently, the pearl-shaped tears rolling down his cheeks from his wide luminous eyes, marking a trail of melancholy as they escaped. It was sad.

I unlocked my phone with a swipe and typed in 'Shawn' in the search bar. The contact flashed open and I quickly typed: 'feeling okay?''yep. I'm fine' he replied. I could see him set his phone aside and making an attempt to wipe the tears. Sadly for him, he couldn't wipe away the grim expression that persisted on his face.

'why u lyin boi?' I texted. His phone buzzed and I'm pretty sure Gilinsky noticed but he was also very tired to fathom what was going on. 'okay fine. I was crying' he replied. 'why tho?' I asked. 'Meet me @ the rooftop once we reach. I'll tell ya' he replied. 'okay. but don't cry boo' I sent one last text and tossed my phone into my purse.

We all got off once we reached and Shawn scurried his way through the halls, not uttering a word and not making eye contact with anyone. I followed him, taking small steps.

We stood under the matte charcoal black sky, the stars seemed bigger, brighter and blurred in the most beautiful way. Shawn sat on the chair, arms folded across his chest. I touched his shoulder gently and said, "tell me."

"Its nothing, I just" He said. He took a deep breath and released it.

"I just felt left out" He said at once.

I let out a chuckle. Left Out. I had been familiarized with these two words so much over the past that no one knew the feeling better than me. Left Out was my normal.

"You'll be okay, trust me" I said.

"How do you know for sure ?"

"I mean, look at me. I'm okay"

He turned around and looked at me and I flashed at him the sweetest smile I owned. I sat beside him gently entwining my fingers with his. Wintry air swirled around us taking every lick of warmth that it could. I wrapped my arms around Shawn's masterpiece of a bodice, tucking my chin into the crook of his neck.I could never let another close to me like this, but he was just so different. There's a purity to him, naivety perhaps, but he's the only flower in the meadow for my eyes.

"Let's be left out together" I spoke out, a cloud of mist escaping my lips.
