Oblivion

Chapter 1

I was walking home from  work. It was around 9 pm right now. The streets were pretty silent. No one likes to be out on such an hour.

It was a chilly night. Cold wind swept my face. I hugged myself even more tightly. How I wish I had some warm sweater or something but my job didn't pay much for me to buy things it only allowed me to pay the bills.

Oh! Forget to introduce myself . My name is Valerie and I live in Oklahoma. I have night black hair and pale skin. I am quite skinny if you ask me but not too much. I am not that rich as you would have noticed but I don't mind.

I live all alone here since I can  remember . I don't even know what happened to my parents. I have grown up in an orphanage and now I live on my own.

I work in a bakery shop owned by Blake. He's like a father to me , which I never had. He gave me job when no one was ready to give me one, because of my lack of education.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard a small bark. I turned to my right and  found a small pup. Aww! it's so cute. I looked around to see if its owner or his fellow mates were there. But no one was to be seen. I guess it is as lonely as me. I started approaching the pup and he just stared at me innocently for a while.

Then the pup ran towards me with his small legs and I took him in my arms, while a loving smile played on my lips. "I guess you are coming with me to the cottage little one." I told him as if he understands me, maybe he did because he replied me with a cute bark.

I was at the cottage now and I put the pup down. Well I have to name it I can't go around calling it the pup. He was running all around already making himself at home. I decided that I would call him Gem.

I pulled out some bread for me and Gem. As soon as I did that he came towards me with light's speed. Uh huh! Someone is hungry. I gave him his bread and he ate it happily. "So I am gonna call you Gem, do you like the name pup?" I asked him and he looked up to me with his big innocent eyes and wiggled his tale as if telling me that he liked it. OK then!

It was about midnight now and I was completely exhausted from the work. I went to bed and Gem followed. I put him in the bed and he made himself comfortable. I switched off the lights and mimicked Gem. And in a few minutes we were soundly sleeping....
