Chapter 13

Val's POV

I reached the study and there he was standing near the window staring outside with his hands in his pants pocket, just like the other day when he had called me in the study. But there was something off about his posture, he seemed quite tensed today. I cleared my throat to make him aware of my presence, even though I knew that he must have heard my heart beats. He turned to come face to face with me. His posture was still tensed like he knew what I was going to ask him.

He gestured me to take a seat and I did quietly. I wasn't sure how I was going to start the conversation but I was glad when he spoke first. "So, miss Valerie I have an idea what you are going to ask, but I am not sure if you want to know the answer yet." His tone was cold and low which gave me shivers down my spine. "Uh.. No, I-I want to-o know." I stuttered. He just kept looking at me with a blank face. "How much do you want to know miss Valerie?" He asked and I was confused as to what type of a question it was, but I replied nevertheless. "I want to know why those wolves attacked me when you were also present there....... I-I mean I can't harm them, I am just a human, so why do they wish to k-kill me?"

He didn't replied for a good few moments, which made me nervous. I started fiddling with my fingers which were placed on my lap. "What makes you think that you cannot harm them miss Valerie?" He asked. "How will I harm them?  I can't even harm a fly and they are huge in comparison to them." I whispered nervously but I was sure he could hear me with his vampire hearing. He  raised a brow at my answer, which made me squirm in my seat. Then he sighed, "Miss Valerie, you are right. You can't harm them, but you can give me enough power to vanish their existence completely." He replied calmly.

It didn't made any sense to me. "H-How can I?" I asked with a confused face. He smiled a little and turned his back towards me. "I still don't think that you can handle it miss Valerie." He sounded a bit nervous, which surprised me. "I can handle it your highness." I said after a moment of silence. "You can call me Ryan when we are alone miss Valerie." I bite my lip nervously and mumbled a small okay.

"So, your hig-..., I-I mean Ryan I c-can handle it. Please t-ell me." He sighed again and replied "Those wolves wants to kill you because ....... you are my mate Valerie!"  My eyes widened and my blood ran cold on hearing this. "H-how ca-n I be-ee your m-mate? Y-ou are a vamp-vampire any I am a hu-man.'' I stuttered out. "But still you are my mate." He spoke so calmly that it scared me till death. I didn't replied him, I didn't knew what to say. My mind was running wild, I couldn't think properly. How can I be his mate?  Out of all the people why me?

My chains of thoughts were broken when he spoke "I know its a lot to take in for you but trust me it's the truth." When I didn't replied he continued "I was also shocked when I found out that you are the one for whom I have been waiting for thousands of years. I never thought that my mate would be a human." And I was just sitting there like a statue, listing intently to every word he spoke. But I still can't believe him. After he finished, there was pin drop silence in the room only the sound of my uneven breaths was audible. None of us moved or talked.

After a few moments I decided to kill the silence by saying "I mu-must g-go to my ro-om now-w." and with that I left the study not bothering to hear his reply.

My heart was thumping in my chest and my mind refused to think properly. I entered my room and locked the door after me. I wanted to be alone right now. I pressed my back against the door and slide down in a sitting position while my head was staring down at the floor. I really wanted to cry at that moment, I couldn't comprehend a thing.

My life had turned upside down in just a few weeks. How I used to be a carefree girl working at a bakery shop and now I am here being a mate of a vampire and not just any vampire but the vampire king...........
