Chapter 9 | The Royal Ball (Part 2)

Val's POV

We danced for a while, and all the time his ocean blue eyes were on me making me nervous, which resulted in me stepping on his foot occasionally. I apologised several times for it and he just looked at me with a small smile, it was so embarrassing. After we were done dancing he said "You must be hungry. I have ordered the chef to prepare some human food for you, which may arrive anytime."  "Thank you your Highness." I replied politely.

"Would you be fine here alone. I have some guests I need to talk to." He asked me and I replied quite nervously "Yes, your grace. I will be completely fine." yet I wasn't so sure about it. He nodded curtly and left. I was standing there awkwardly, suddenly feeling out of place. I observed that the people had some deep red liquid in their glasses, which I assumed was blood because the ballroom smelled like it. It was disgusting. I was startled by a husky voice beside me "Ah! What's a lovely lady like you doing here all alone?" I looked up to see a fairly good looking man with black hair and honey colored eyes, he too had the red liquid in his glass.

When I didn't replied he said "Well I am Derek, the king's most trusted man." There was an evil glint in his eyes, which said otherwise. I just nodded my head in reply. He placed his glass on the table besides us and offered me his hand "Would you like to have a dance with me, miss Valerie?" I wanted to scream NO! But his eyes were compelling and before I knew i placed my hand in his and we were dancing. He was too close to me for my liking and I was really uncomfortable with it. Finally the music ended and he pulled away from me, but he didn't let go of my hand and lead me towards the empty hallway.

My eyes widened and I wanted to stop but my legs weren't listening to me. I just kept following him. He was doing something to my mind, I didn't had control on my own legs and mouth. We reached the last room on the hallway and he pulled me in and locked the door. As soon as he let go of my hands, I let out the scream that I was holding. Suddenly I had control on myself. He clasped his hand on my lips so that my screams won't be heard outside. He slammed me to the nearest wall and my back hurts with the impact. "Now its been a while since I have had a living human to drink from. All the vampires here have survived with animals blood because of that bastard of a king. God knows why he had banned humans from this part of the woods. But now, finally I can have one." He said and I trembled. I tried to get out of his grip but all in vain.

"Now, now darling stop struggling. It won't hurt I promise. Just one deep bite and you would be drained out of your blood." he said sadistically. His eyes were red and his fangs were showing. Tears picked up in my eyes and I screamed but it was muffled by his hands. He neared his mouth to my neck and I shut my eyes praying that somehow he would stop.

And suddenly his weight was lifted up from me and I heard a loud crash. I opened my eyes to see who has saved me and I wished that I wouldn't have done that. In front of me was the king almost looking like a devil. His eyes were pitch black. His fangs were sharper and longer than before and blood was dripping from the corner of his mouth. At that moment he appeared as a monster to me, about whom Raven had told me. I was trembling with fear and the first thing on my mind was to run, to escape from the devil.

And I did just that. I dashed out of the room with all my strength. I found the main door of the castle that would take me out of here. I ran towards it and I was finally out. But I didn't stop, I wanted to get far away from the castle. So I ran continuously. I was deep in the dense forest in front of the castle with no clue where to go. I was panting hard and I leaned on to the nearby tree for support. I heard voices not far away from me. "Find her and bring her to me this instant." Said the king which made my heart race.

Even though my feet's were killing me, I ran. I ran to get away from the voices but I tripped over something which caused me to fall with a loud thud. I am pretty sure they would have heard it. So I got up fast and ran with all speed but someone caught me from behind and brought me against their hard chest. I tried to scream but they shut me up. "Shh its fine, you are safe!" They said and I instantly recognized him as the king. I tried to wiggle out from his grip in panic but he just held me tightly.

When he noticed that I wasn't going to cooperation. He backed me up to a tree and yelled "CALM DOWN VALERIE!! I AM NOT GOING TO HURT YOU. JUST CALM DOWN." and I did but my heart was still out of control and my breaths were uneven. I stared up at him and noticed that he was back to his normal self. My head was throbbing hard and I felt dizzy and sick, and before I knew i was engulfed by darkness.
