Chapter 10

Val's POV

I wasn't fully conscious, but I can hear some voices around me. "How's she?" Asked a familiar voice and another not so familiar voice replied "She's completely fine. She was a little bit overwhelmed by the events which resulted in her passing out. She can gain consciousness any time now." I assumed that they were talking about me.

I tried to recall what had happened due to which I fainted, and suddenly the events came flooding back to me. I panicked and jumped up in a sitting position, breathing heavily. I looked around frantically and spotted Ryan on the door. There was no one else to be seen. Maybe they left. I looked up to him and crawled back to the headboard of the bed and brought my legs to my chest. My heart was pounding hard and I am sure he heard it. He moved close to me and I tried to sink further in the headboard. I didn't wanted to be near him after witnessing how much of a monster he is.

"I know you are scared Valerie, but trust me I don't intend to hurt you." He spoke gently as if speaking to a scared child. I swallowed the lump in my throat and said "If you don't intend to hurt me, then let me go. Let me out of hear. I don't want to be here, I want to go back to my previous life. Please let me go."  "I can't do that. You are safe here. You have to understand that." He replied, I can tell he was trying to be as calm as possible. But his reply ignited anger in me, and I stood up from my position and yelled at him "HOW CAN I BE SAFE, WHEN I AM SURROUNDED BY BLOOD SUCKING CREATURES. Huh!  How can I be safe with you, you are a monster do you realise that. You have killed so many innocent people, and I know you won't hesitate to kill me too."

As soon as I finished that I was slammed at the near by wall, with him trapping me between the wall and himself and he spoke in a dangerously low voice "Yes, I am a monster. Yes, I have killed many people, but how do you know they were all innocent? And if I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't have saved you from drowning on that day. I have banned humans from this part of the woods, ever wondered why?  I have my reasons for doing what I did and I did it for everyone's safety." He left me speechless with his confessions.

"W-why did y-you b-banned humans?" I asked timidly. He was quite for some time but then he answered "I banned them because it was the safest thing to do. There are creatures that wants to harm your species and they all can be found in this part of the woods. I did that to ensure the safety of your kind." I was astonished by his reply. "Why d-did you w-wanted to k-eep us s-safe?" I found myself asking. He took a deep breath and said "You know I wasn't always like this. Like a....... Monster as you say. I was a human..... ages ago. And I didn't wanted to be turned into a vampire but I didn't had a choice. My family's life was at stake. Either I become a vampire or they would kill my family. I loved my family too much to see them die before me so I choose to sacrifice my life for them."

And I wanted to kill myself then and there. I called him a monster before knowing his side of the story. I am such a terrible person......   "I-I am really so-sorry! I didn't kn-knew what you went th-through. Y-you a-are no-not a mon-monster. I am sorry!" I apologised and he just shook his head "No, you don't have to be sorry for me. It's okay! I have heard worser things than that." He told me making my heart ache for some unknown reason.

"Why did you killed all those innocent people?" I asked out of curiosity. He replied nonetheless "They weren't innocent as the rumours say they were. They were all werewolf, one of the creatures that wants your kind dead. You remember that wolf that attacked you on that day. He was a werewolf."   "What is a werewolf?" I asked confused. "They are creatures that can shift shape from human to a huge wolf or vice versa." He explained and I nodded my head feeling more terrible for accusing him as a killer, when he was just trying to protect us.

I was guilty as hell and I didn't know how to apologize to him. Suddenly he started moving toward the door and I ran up to him and hugged him, while mumbling a small sorry. My action surprised both of us. But he returned the hug by wrapping his arms securely around my waist, and I actually felt safe in his arms. We stayed in the same position for a few moments and then he pulled back and went out without saying a word.

He wasn't as bad as people say he was. He had a past and his own reasons for doing what he did, which no one knows and yet he told me. I didn't even realize that I was blushing while looking at the door, from which he had walked out just now.
