Ryan's POV

When I took the bark and examined it, I was shocked to know that the blood on the bark was of Valerie. How can she be so selfless and irresponsible at the same time? Feeding blood, and that too human blood, to a starving vampire is foolery. She's damn stupid and innocent. I don't know if I should be angry at her or be thankful to her. I could have drained her out of blood, if it wasn't for Keil, who came on time to stop the brutal event from occurring.

She was still lying limp on the forest ground and breathing irregularly. She had already lost a lot of blood and we have to do something now, or we will lose her. "Ryan! Do something. I don't know what to do when we drain a human half dry." Keil taunted but the worry was evident on his face. "I know what we do Keil. I know!" I replied and then I bit my wrist with my fangs, deep enough to draw a good amount of blood out. Keil was watching the unfolding of the events with wide eyes. I made my way towards Valerie's limp form and put her head on my lap, just like she did with me a few hours ago.

I placed my bleeding wrist on her lips and let the blood flow down her throat. Vampire's have that unique quality to heal a lot more faster than humans, a vampire's blood would help a human to heal quickly, though she wasn't actually a human but she was close to that species. However, doing so will have some consequences. When a vampire transfers some of his own blood to his mate, a strong unbreakable bond is formed between the two, which is known as adamantine. Its the bond which doesn't allow the vampire and his mate to be separated for a long time and if they are separated forcefully for a longer duration, then they both would perish.

Knowing this, I could have asked Keil to do so but my conscience does not permit me to. Keil still held that confused look on his face and finally he queried "What are you doing?"      "Helping her in healing." I answered and his face fell in an 'O' shape, as the realization hit him. After a good few moments Valerie opened her eyes ever so slightly but I didn't failed to notice that. She again shut her eyes which I guess was due to the full moonlight hitting her directly on the face. I removed my wrist from her lips and as soon as i did that the two puncture holes of my fangs, which were on my wrist vanished into thin air. This reminded me of the damage I had done to Valerie. My eyes immediately snapped towards her wrist, which I had bit, and I was revealed to see that the marks were gone and only the dry blood remained. So, the healing actually worked.

In a matter of time she was completely conscious and the first thing I did, shocked us both. I wrapped my arms around her neck and gave her a bone crushing hug. She was taken aback by my sudden actions but eventually she overcame it and wrapped her tiny arms around my torso, her fists were clutching the fabric of my shirt. We remained in the same position for quite some time, enjoying each others embrace but a sudden clearing of throat brought us back to reality. We pulled away from the hug and stared at Keil who interrupted our little moment. "You both just came out of death's mouth and the first thing you do is to display your love for each other. You guys are unbelievable." Keil huffed and went away to give us some privacy. Way to ruin a moment Keil.

"Are you okay?" I heard the sweet voice of my mate ask. I stared at her for a few seconds and then replied "I should be the one asking you this question. Don't you think?" She bit her lower lip nervously and said "I am fine. Now you answer me." I laughed at her innocent answer and said cheekily "If you are fine, then I am fine too." She blushed slightly and then looked up at me with moist eyes. "What happened to you back then? You scared me." She whispered shakily, making me feel more guilty then before. I sighed and answered "I just lost control. I had never had human blood as a meal and now when I was starving you gave me your blood which ignited my thrust and my inner demon rose out. I never intended to hurt you or scare you............. I am sorry." This is the first time in decades, that I had apologised to someone. She smiled lightly and spoke "No. I am sorry. I didn't knew that it would have such an effect on you. I just wanted to save you. But anyways, it was stupid of me to do so." I shook my head and hugged her again while placing a soft kiss on her small forehead.

I thought of telling her her about the adamantine , but soon dropped the idea. She would be more worked up after hearing that and right now that's the last thing I want. So, it would be better if I keep it away from her till we reach the castle. I was so deeply involved in my thoughts that I didn't realise that she had already pulled away from my embrace, and was smiling at me. I returned the gesture and as on cue Keil came back from his small journey. "If you guys are done then can we please get back on the road. My bed from the castle is calling me." Keil said playfully with a small wink. "Yup, I also wish to return to the castle as soon as possible." Valerie replied and I nodded in agreement.

We got on our horses and started our journey back towards our home.
