Think back to a time when you felt stressed. You were enclosed, surrounded by the numerous things you still have yet to do. Time ticks by, but it's never enough because you are trapped by to-do lists. It almost gets to a point that you are claustrophobic, afraid of drowning in everything around you.
For some, this situation can unfortunately relate to real-life items, equating to a hoarder's stockpile that needs to eventually be completed. Even if we're not necessarily on a hoarding level, we all can quickly identify the corner or drawer that we simply throw everything into. ;)Whether your characters experience physical or metaphorical claustrophobia, it gives you an opportunity to describe "reactions." I put that word in quotes, because a character can react to any situation, but in this situation you need to emphasize more. Describing specific facial features, adding sounds (no matter how small!) and other physical attributes can enhance the characters you created to truly be your own. With emotional events such as finally breaking down your fear of throwing out beloved items, or overcoming endless levels of stress, details are a must and cannot be overlooked.
Happy writing!
