Yellow!
Yes, I know, it is very much a Monday. There was a break last week due to Christmas, but this week I still wanted to give you all a prompt.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! I'm assuming that you all are attempting to create New Year's resolutions and goals, despite the fact you know you probably won't go through with it. Your characters can be doing precisely the same thing.
Of course, goals don't always need to be made at the beginning of the year. The creation of goals gives off the aura that something new and wonderful will begin, or that something has been accomplished. If you need a new turning point in your story, or a different vibe, this is a great transition. It gives satisfaction to the reader, AND your character.Just to prove this can work for any kind of story, for example, your female main character has been wallowing over her ex who broke up with her. Kind of repetitive and irritating to read over and over, right? Finally, she talks to someone who tells her a word of advice, and she is put at peace in her heart. She creates the goal that she will be strong for herself, and those close to her. She doesn't want anyone else to be as hurt as she had been for a long time. This originally weak and fragile character has now become a strong and determined character.
That just improved the story, right?Even just having a goal for your characters in general makes the reader cheer for them even more. How about we say male main character has been struggling his whole life to find his lost sister. He becomes a detective to widen his area of sight, determined to find her. We have an obvious goal at this moment, and that makes you want him to find his sister. (Of course unless you're heartless XD)
Perhaps let's say this so-called character eventually finds his sister. His goal has been completed. Very satisfying for everyone, of course unless you the author are not quite ready to give the characters up. You can always have another event happen, or force your character to announce a new goal to dedicate his time to.Thanks for reading!
If any questions come up, just comment and I'd be happy to answer.
