This chapter is worth reading trust me :)

Today's Wednesday and I already feel extremely exhausted from classes and I've only had three already. Currently I was walking down the hall with my books heading to my locker to leave off a few books before I find my way to lunch.

As stated before I don't have any friends so I didn't have like a designated place to sit. It didn't bother me though it's not like I was ever popular or well known at any point in time. My stomach started to growl so I glanced over to the lunch line. Only three persons were in the line. "Thank god" I uttered.

Within a minute I was at the front of the line. I looked over the counter to see one of the cafeteria's cashier standing there on her phone popping her gum very loudly. Could this get any more annoying or cliche? I just rolled my eyes until I grew impatient and cleared my throat as loudly as I could.

She glanced up from her phone looking at me with annoyance. "What can I get ya" she asked she didn't speak precise English it was still English but different. She must be from Jersey. "I'd like a bottle of water and small fries please." "Sure darlin'." I handed her the money, took my receipt and made my way over to the pickup counter.

As soon as I got there I was greeted with sizzling hot fries and a bottle of luke warm water. I liked my fries salty so I added some more  salt to it before finding a table to the far left of the cafeteria. I placed the food down on the table before slipping into the seat. This was my first time sitting at this table and well I liked and plus it made you see exactly everything inside the cafeteria. It was also secluded from all the other tables.

It was a great location and I was surprised that the more popular people  didn't have some sort of ownership to the table. Maybe this table was waiting on me I thought. I slipped out my phone from my pocket, opened it to Instagram and started scrolling through my timeline. Two minutes of scrolling and looking I felt the presence of somebody behind me.

I thought it was probably someone passing by but I still felt it. Then whoever was standing there tapped my shoulder and I turned around to be greeted by Miles Reed. "May I have a seat?" he asked. "Free country" I muttered back. "I'll take that as a yes" he said before sitting down.

*Shay could you just listen to me for a second and stop staring at photos of Kygo?" He asked annoyed. "Okay" I answered turning around. Now I know you want me to address the elephant at this table right? "If your talking about me then yeah if you want" I retorted.

He rolled his eyes. "Not that elephant" he answered. "Oh! So you do think I look like an elephant" I asked? "What!no. I clearly meant why I've been avoiding you lately don't be so difficult."  "Sorry I guess" I uttered "my ears are all yours. Fire away."

"I've been in and out if the hospital for the past few days." He started. "The hospital!" I exclaimed. "Yes, the hospital he stated but I'm not the one who's sick"  whew I blew out a breath even I didn't know I was holding. "So why then?" I questioned.

"My mom." "Oh what happened?" Miles loved his mom because when we met  he talked about her a lot and I mean a lot. "My dad" he stumbled over his words. "What about him" I asked. "He's been abusing my mom ever since he came back which was three weeks ago and I found out last week Monday."

Now I feel really bad for avoiding him. A part of me wanted to cry but no tears came so I listened to the rest of what he had to say. "Why is your dad doing that" I asked. "Well about three years ago his army unit went away to Indonesia and before that their marriage wasn't working out because he always had to go away every now and again, my mom got tired of it,my dad was never really there for anything and overall their feelings changed about each other."

"After his first trip back from Indonesia they got legally separated, he still lived with us though" Miles choked out licking his lips his head hanging low. "Oh" was all I managed to say. "A year passed and my mom started dating again and dad came back around that time and well things just spiraled out of control. They argued, fought, bickered, quarrelled you name it."

"One day I came home and my mom had bruises on the back of her hand and when I asked about it she changed the subject, dad was already gone again, three months later he was back again and when he was gone mom had bruises at different places on her body. Every time I asked about them it was either an excuse or a change of topic."

"Then three weeks ago my father came back. I was never close to him so very little communication took place. On Sunday after coming home from football practice I walked in on my dad lifting a metal from a broken chair handle lifted above my mom and all she did was quiver under him like a lost child and that's when  I finally realized where my mom got her bruises from."

"Then what happened?" I asked practically choking and stumbling over my words my eyes were watery. "He hit her." My mouth fell open. "My mom dating really had an impact on him and he's crazy so that's what he did. I think what really triggered him was that he walked in on mom and her boyfriend having intercourse in the same bed he and her used to do it in. Anyways he ran out on me with my mom passed out in my arms."

"I called an ambulance to come for her and they took her to the hospital which is where I spent my entire Sunday night." A single tear rolled down his eyes as he finished the sentence. I can tell he didn't want me to see him crying but he just had to. "Miles I'm really sorry" was all I had to say. "It's okay you couldn't have known" he answered.

"So how's your mom" I asked? "She's in a coma because the spot where he hit her was hit repeatedly." "Where did he hit her?" "Her head he choked out." I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him in for a tight hug.

Tears were silently flowing from my eyes now. He pulled away. "Why are you crying Shay?" "I don't know" and as I said so and looked into his eyes all I saw was a broken person who just deeply wanted to be loved.

I dried my eyes smiling back at him "want a fry?" I slipped over the container to him. "Awww you just know how to cheer me up when I'm sad" he smiled. "Shut up you goon" I answered smiling as well. We each talked catching up on the events of the past week while sharing some fries and then the bell rung ruining a perfect moment. "Uggh let's go to class" he stood up pushing out his hands "shall we?" he asked. "We shall" I stated standing up and  taking his hands in mine while we walked off to class together hand in hand.
