when we got our eighth grade schedules your mom took us to go look for our classes.

it was later since your mom had to work and there weren't that many people around anymore.

we found all of our classes, the ones we had together and the ones we didn't.

we didn't have the same lunch time which was a big disappointment, but i knew we'd be alright .

after finding our classes we ran down the halls of the old building laughing and racing each other.

we played hide and seek and you always found me but i never minded.
and i never would.

the last place i hid, you found me and said, "i'll always find you, kare, you can't hide from me teacup."

and i knew it.

we laughed as you pulled me off of the ground and we walked back to your mom's car. you slung your arm across my shoulders as we walked.

i remember asking you, "are things going to change since we're older?"

"no, i swear i won't let that happen unless you want it to

we'll be best friends all the way through high school

we'll be best friends forever until i go to be a marine

but even then i will always love you and even then i'll still be your best friend, if you want me to."

i knew it wasn't going to be true, but by then i knew i felt the same, so i believed you. i had briefly forgotten the path you settled on. awhile back you mentioned the military and how you wanted to be part of something bigger. you wanted to fight for your country the same way your dad had.

i had to respect it but that didn't mean i couldn't be conflicted by it.

"you swear?"

"i swear,  a.k. swear."

an axel&kara swear could never be broken.

it was our own form of pinkie swearing. a pact unbreakable, resembling a bond unbreakable.

you stopped to turn to me and held out your hand.
we locked our index fingers together to show the significance of our little pact and walked the rest of the way swinging our locked fingers .

i knew that day that i loved you.
