Charlotte's POV:
I woke up in the same place I was before, in my small white room. Everything from the past few hours flooded into my mind, but I almost couldn't move.
Angeline was in here, tidying up a few things.
"What happened?" I asked her.
"You sort of, fainted..when you heard the news." She spoke apologetically.
"So he's really.." I strung out and she nodded. I only let a few tears fall.
"It's gonna be okay." She patted my shoulder before picking up a few empty water bottles and leaving.
I lied in my room alone for hours, absentmindedly thinking about Harry. The silence was finally broken when there was a quiet knock on the door.
"It's open." I spoke, staring at the wall in front of me.
"Hey." I turned my head to see Kristen with a bouquet of flowers in her hand.
"Hey." I have her a genuine smile. Finally, a fresh face.
"How are you?" She asked hugging me.
"I'm good, but uh-"
"Yeah, I know, it's okay." She told me. I nodded.
"Can you do me a favor?" I asked her.
"Um, yeah. Sure." She said, my question obviously catching off guard.
"Will you take me to his room?" She thought for a moment before nodding.
*****
The trip to Harry's room felt like years were passing, it was taking forever. When we finally got there, Kristen wheeled me in and placed me next to his bed, next to Harry's perfect unconscious body.
"Are you..okay here? Do you want me to stay?" She asked. I shook my head.
"No, it's fine. I just kinda want to..sit here. If that's okay." I spoke quietly.
"No, it's okay. I understand. I can come back tomorrow if you like." I nodded with a smiled and I was alone again. Maybe not physically, but very much so mentally.
I considered myself crazy for wanting to have a conversation with him. I wanted to pretend he was awake, but then I thought, "that's what crazy people do Char, they pretend everything's okay when it's broken."
I took his hand in mine and I was relieved at its warmth, the warmer his body was the better.
It meant he was alive.
I sat there for what some people would consider far too long. Four hours I believe. I listened and focused on every little sound, every movement.
A small cough was heard behind me and I whipped my head around.
"Am I interrupting?" Anne asked me.
"No, no. I've just been sitting here for a while." I told her. She approached me, placing an arm around my shoulder.
"It's okay, I understand." She spoke.
"Am I crazy, Anne? For almost wanting to pretend he's awake, to pretend he's okay?" I asked without thinking.
"No," She began. "Because I do the same exact thing."
"Well, is it though?" I asked.
"Is it what?" She gave me a confused look.
"Crazy?"
"No, it's just human."
