I walk into my private training area in the woods, shutting the latch behind me. I had this built when I first arrived.
I haven't been in here in months. I got so used to training with Josh and Danny.
I walk over to the punching bag hanging from the ceiling, my hands taped so they don't get too scratched up, and punch as hard as I can.
I punch and kick, letting all my anger out. After a half an hour of non stop hitting, dodging, kicking, I stop. I fall into an empty chair, out of breath.
I take a clean, fluffy towel and dab the sweat off my forehead and head to my treadmill. I train for hours before I finally give into my tired body.
My muscles ache as I make my way up the steps. I unlock the latch door with the key I keep securely around my neck and lock it again when I climb out.
"What's that?" I let out a small scream at the deep voice behind me. I spin on my heels to be met with Xander. "What are you doing out here?"
"Answer my question first." He argues like a child. I just roll my eyes and try to walk past him but he stops me.
"What's down there?" He points at the latch while holding onto my arm. "It's just a small spot for me to train in private. I use it when I need to think. Now, why are you out here?"
I take my arm out of his hold and cross them over my chest. "I saw you go into the woods without guards so I followed." He looked down as a hint of red started to cover his cheeks.
"Wait, you've been out here for three hours?" He nods while rubbing the back of his neck. "I just wanted to talk to you but I couldn't get in there cause the handle is laced with silver. Wait a second, how'd you touch it?"
His eyes narrow as he crosses arms, mimicking me. "Well when you're born from the curse of a witch, there's gonna be some defects." I shrug like it's no big deal.
"Defects? As in more than one?" I sigh in annoyance while pinching the bridge of my nose. "Yeah, look can we go somewhere else to talk instead of standing around here?"
After he agrees, we make our way to my house where Sam is waiting with a very angry look in his eyes. "Where have you been? I've called, texted, mind linked, and searched for you everywhere."
"I was training, sorry." I make my way to my office, before he can continue yelling at me, with Xander trailing behind.
I sit in my leather chair behind my desk and he sits across from me. "Now there's not really anything too bad. Just a few things I can't do that normal wolves can."
"Like what?" I think for a second before responding. "Well, silver doesn't hurt me, I was also born without a sense of smell. That's why I have so many guards with me. I can protect myself, I just can't smell if there's a threat nearby."
"That's why you didn't notice me following you earlier. I was curious as to why you weren't yelling at me like usual." I feel my face heat up. "I don't just yell at you all the time."
He laughs at my embarrassed expression and I look away. "That is all you do. Yell and run away from me." I glare at him while he wipes a fake tear from his eyes.
"As I was saying, my defects. I also can't heal as fast as normal werewolves. I can heal, it just takes longer and when I get hurt scars are left behind." A serious vibe settles around us as I finish speaking. Xander stays silent, lost in thought.
"Why do you run from me? Do you not want to be my mate?" A look of sadness and hurt flash through his eyes, but it's gone as soon as it was there.
"No, I think you'd make a fine mate. I just can't have one." He raises an eyebrow, clearly confused and I groan. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Look, it's for your safety. I can't have a mate without putting everyone I love in danger." Maybe I should just tell him. My wolf has been nagging me none stop to let him in and help ever since we saw him.
"Just tell me what's wrong and I can help. I'm your mate, you're supposed to tell me your burdens." He walks over to me and engulfs my small hands into his giant ones.
I try to hold in the words that want to come tumbling out, but I fail. "I was to be married."
