Chapter 10
"Claire wake up!" my mom said. Something was wrong; I could hear it in her voice. I rolled over; God it was still dark out, what was my mom thinking?
"Claire this is important," I groaned. My mom sounded panicked and it was too early for my brain to function. What could have happened over the course of one night?
"What?" I mumble my voice barely legible. I am currently trying to blink away the burn the opening them brings to my eyes.
"Do you know where your brothers are?" she asked. Why was she so frantic? Had she not checked their rooms?
"Their rooms?" I asked her trying to refrain from rolling my eyes, now that they had adjusted to the dark.
"I'm not stupid they aren't there," my mom said. It took me a minute for the situation to sink in. My brothers were missing.
"Charlie too, are you sure?" I asked her surprised. She just nodded I could see she was nearly in tears. Charlie had always been the voice of reason between the two. I hoped that they were okay, where could they possibly be this late at night? Or this early in the morning depending on how you looked at it. The party... But how? Charlie would never! Would he? He was only 15!
"There was a party last night," I started telling my Mom but she quickly interrupted me.
"The one that you went to?" she said putting her hands on her hips. In seconds she had gone from concerned parent to disciplinarian. Seriously, were there not more important things at hand here? Like oh I don't know my brothers!!
"Actually Mom, Lucas and I went out to dinner instead," I said and then she was smiling and she looked like Kylie will as soon as she finds out what happened last night. Oh no today was a school day which means that it looks like I will be getting nada sleep tonight. Lovely. I think my Mom was bipolar hello, does she not remember her sons right now?
"Anyway Dylan was going to go to the party, so he might be there, but I don't know where Charlie could have gone," I said. My Mom nodded and I got out of bed.
"Look, we can't go out and find them, your Dad had to take the car with him to go to a meeting he won't be home until this afternoon," my mom said pacing the room nervously.
"Relax Mom, I will get Lucas to drive me to places he thinks they might be. Since he knows the area better than we do. Then you can call around and see if anyone has seen him recently," I said taking charge I knew if my Mom had to take control she might just break down.
"Thank you," she said as I hurried down the stairs slipping on my shoes as I ran outside. I quickly picked up a couple of rocks and started hurling it at the window I assumed to be Lucas'. I started to worry that he might have headed out to the party after our 'date' if you can call it that. I was going to call it that.
"What the Fuc..." Lucas said as he started to open his window. As soon as he noticed it was me he stopped and looked at me confused. "Can I help you?" He asked me raising a suggestive eyebrow. Damn it can he please get over himself? Since when did I like cocky guys?
"Can you get your ass down here please?" I asked. I couldn't help it I swore when I was nervous. It was my tell, some people bit their nails, some chewed on their nails and I used explicit language. It was a thing okay? It was not just me tons of people did it.
"Hey are you okay?" Lucas asked me resting his hands on my shoulders. I jumped screaming. I must have spaced out it feels like he should still be standing at his window.
"Dylan and Charlie aren't home, I don't know where they are," I said and as I said it my sleep deprived mind finally clued in to the situation. Like when someone tells a joke and then 5 minutes later you burst out laughing in the middle of a completely different conversation, all because you finally understand this joke that was now hilarious. I wanted to cry, I missed my baby brother I even needed my annoying older brother who never had a shortage on confidence.
