Chapter 22

"Excuse me I have to do something," I said. I know I should support Kylie and tell her him getting with Beth was hopeless but she would only think she ment it as a friend, and only have 4 days, less than 96 hours, every second counts.
I pulled out my phone to see a dead screen. Luckily the cafe had a pay phone outside, because yes this town was that old.
I pulled out a quarter, and then I did it.
I called him quickly with no regret.
If Lucas only wanted to be friends then fine at this point I would take anything he was willing to give me.

"Merry Christmas!" Alice cheered as she welcomed me into the Cafe. It was only Christmas eve, but we had decided to all celebrate as a group today. Tomorrow was for us to spend with our families. God only knew what I was going to do with mine. 'Save those boxes for packing!' I could imagine my mother saying.
"Merry Christmas," I said as I walked in. It looked like Alice's family was the only who had arrived yet, obviously Tara's had to. Tara's brother looked to be trying to flirt with Alice's older sister, but she didn't seem interested in the least.
"Hello Claire, Charlie, Dylan, Mr. and Mrs. Rivera," Alice's older sister said obviously trying to escape Walker's shameless flirting. He was handsome captain of the football team, but Raquel Alice's older sister is a lot more like Tara when it comes to being stubborn. She came over a couple times when Alice visited.
"Hello Raquel," my mother said smiling as we headed over to drop off our gifts at gift table.
"Hi honey," Jordan said giving me a hug, and then Shawn kissed the top of my head.
"Merry Christmas," I said smiling widely at them. They had completely decorated the Cafe, it had been completed with an extremely decorated tree, tinsel and Christmas lights strewn around the room and hung from the ceiling. Even the center of the room had mistletoe hung neatly.
"I'm here now no worries," Kylie said smiling as she barged into the Cafe her family following close behind her.
"Hi," Benjie said to everyone and then walked over to bug Charlie. Jenny Kylie's other younger sibling waved shyly but Sophie rushed over to her already saying 10 things at once.
All of the parents slowly migrated to the same corner of the room as the younger kids danced and sang along to the Christmas songs, they somehow even convinced us to join them. By us I ment Tara, Alice, Kylie, Raquel, Charlie and I. Todd, Walker, and Dylan thought they were too cool to do something like that though.
"Rockin' around, the Christmas tree!" all of us sang but a little pair of lungs quickly over powered us.
"Merry Christmas!" Brody called and I soon felt a small body attach itself to my leg. "Hi Claire," Brody said smiling up at me. I quickly lent down and gave him a hug.
"Merry Christmas Brody," I said smiling as I picked him up quickly and he giggled as I spun him in a circle before quickly setting him back down.
"Can you girls come help me in the kitchen?" Jordan asked and so we all nodded but before I left Brody caught my arm.
"Aren't you going to say hi to Lucas?" Brody asked and I just shook my head sadly and his frown deepened. I recounted last night's conversation.
